@MrsLonghorn: I think it's more about them spreading the germs throughout the home vs minimizing the exposure they had that day. That's how I interpreted the article I read, at least.

@MrsLonghorn: I don't know about your child, but the first thing my son wants to do is run into the house and flop onto his bed. The thought of him having been at school all day, and then getting into bed....There are a lot of soft surfaces in my house that I can't wash easily.

No, but DD usually undresses as soon as she gets home. We do have a rule about not wearing daycare clothes in bed, not even just sitting or lounging. But on the couch is fine.

@meadow: So funny that you posted this! I thought the exact same thing when DS started daycare at 9 months old. I assumed it would be better for him (less illness?) to have clean clothes. It lasted about 2 weeks.

@wrkbrk: haha...yup......I did officially give up on it.....but no that we are eating solids (table foods and the babies are super messy) I get home nurse them in their daycare onesie with no pants post diaper change.....then they play for a little bit and hop into their high chairs in only their diaper.
So they are in their daycare clothes nursing and just a little bit playtime.....I decided that was worth my sanity!!

@looch @sweetiepie - very interesting, I hadn't thought of it that way at all!! My mind was only thinking about what he puts in his mouth, and in our house that is definitely his hands. He is still in a crib, so bed isn't an issue here, but my sofa definitely is.

I make my 4 year old wash his hands. He changes if he is really dirty. It's more to protect his younger sister from any extra germs. It started when she was itty bitty and has continued as a habit.
Either way, sounds like you found a good solution!

@MrsLonghorn: I have a slip cover on our main sofa, it's saved us a bunch in terms of spills, but once, I happened to be home when my housecleaner was fluffing the pillows and the amount of dust that flew around made me glad that I had a cover on it and could just wash it.
I am kind of nuts about outside clothes versus inside clothes. I've sat on public transportation a lot in my life and seen a ton of things, and people are gross. Kids included.

Nope, I figured the germs are already "in" them so their clothes are the least of my worries. We wash hands before dinner and then go straight to bath after and put on PJs (our home clothes I guess.) but I'm not going to dirty an outfit just for them to wear at dinner to then change into PJs an hour later. I do enough laundry! ha
We literally come home from daycare, I cook dinner, we eat then go to bath and put on PJs and then play. So it's a pretty tight night time schedule.

We don't make her change her daycare clothes when she gets home but she loves getting into her pjs so that usually happens. We do make her wash her hands before she does anything else.
