DS started DCP at 5 months and was sick on and off until he was 2!

DD started at 15 months and was sick until she was about 2.5!

Unfortunately, this sounds completely normal.

HFM just sucks.. Hopefully once his immune system is a bit stronger, he won't catch some of that stuff.

Umm... Xander started at 12 weeks and was pretty much sick non-stop for months. I forget when it started to slow down... but by 10 months, it was more like once a month instead of once a week, haha.

Oh I'm so, so sorry. Your poor little one.

Yeah. Elliott started at 6.5 months - that was 12 weeks ago. She caught a cold on her first settling in session and has been pretty much ill ever since. Alongside a permanent cold, she has had every flavour of cough (wet and dry) two bouts of conjunctivitis, croup and a mystery rash. In addition to that, DH and I have never been so sick! Between us, we've had a tummy bug, a sinus infection a chest infection and cold after cold.

I was talking to the daycare assistant manager last week and she said that the pre-schoolers who came to daycare as babies or toddlers are very rarely sick. I keep reminding myself that it's better for her (and your E) to build up their immune systems now when a few days in front of the TV doesn't hurt than when they are learning vital things at pre-school age. Right? *cough, splutter, ugh*

@lovehoneybee: This won't be what you want to hear, but LO started day care only 2 days/week in November, and I can count on one hand the number of days he hasn't been sick from one thing or another.

I feel that we've had everything under the sun! Roseola, HFM, some sort of virus that made him break out in hives for a full week (apparently, kids with allergies can fight viruses this way), fevers, head colds, chest colds, stomach bugs. BLAH! I'm hoping with the warmer weather, they're outside more and get a little less sick.

The other bad thing is that apparently, mine and DH's immune systems aren't what we thought they were. It seems as if whatever he brings home, we get too!

@.twist.: Not sure if this will make you feel better or not, but I found that despite the fact that Xander was sick almost ALL THE TIME, his mood didn't really seem to suffer from it!! He still is just as energetic as always!

I'm sorry. I totally feel your pain. My son started daycare in January at 14 months and was sick until March - colds, fevers, viruses, pink eye. Every week in January it was something new. He didn't do a full week until mid February since he was out sick. It's so hard!! He's still got a bit of a minor cough but its getting better - glad they are outside more!

Oh no this is one of my biggest concerns for when J starts in August! I am not looking forward to this. He's pretty much been home his entire two years and I can count on one hand all the times he's been sick. I'm hoping that since he is starting at the end of summer- there will be no illnesses for awhile, and he'll be all chocked full of good ol' vit D.

Yes. DS started at 8 weeks and the first week he got sick and we were at pedi for something about every six weeks the first year. Dd started 3 weeks ago at 10 weeks and has had congestion since her first week. I'm finally taking her to pedi today.

I feel like I should just pay a dr a retainer I've had to take off so much work due to kid illnesses. Croup, chicken pox, viral infections, colds...

Yup, the first year was horrible. Non stop sickness. But *knock on wood* a lot less the second year.
If it makes you feel any better a friend of mine, her son is at home and he is sick all the time too. So not being in daycare doesn't always save the kid from being sick!

My son was sick a lot last year as well, first time in daycare and he literally caught everything. I have a feeling a lot of it was due to the fact that it was winter and he was still mouthing a lot of toys.

This year, he's been much better, still had some sickness, but it was more manageable...the thing that killed us this year was the snow!
