Omg so sorry this happened. Hope Xander is feeling better! poor guy I totally understand how important it is to you reg Xander getting BM and following your instructions. Its a tough choice you like the daycare but they are not following 100%. Just a suggestion maybe you could met with a parent in other daycare (if at all possible) to get a feel and select a backup to be prepared if things don't work out.

@sorrycharlie: I still don't see the puffs thing? Page one of this post? But anyhow I was responding only to this post so I have no opinion about whether she should search for another daycare. Sounds like she should, but at the same time when I read HB and compare what I've seen in centers and schools I do think there's often a little bit of as disconnect in expectations for group care and what actually happens...sometimes. Not saying that it's true for anyone specifically but it probably affects my responses. I do wonder whether the new teacher was even made aware of the puffs incident, not that it would factor into my opinion of the center but of the teacher.
@emg86: That's a good idea so long as the parents are ok with photos and what not... It is an especially good idea if there are lots of kids with allergies or a lot of kids to one adult. Four to one may sound manageable but that's four different nap schedules, four different feeding schedules, etc etc when you're talking about infants...mix ups, kids taking each others bottles/food, all of that kind of stuff gets hectic enough, but the more info is made readily available to teachers (and teachers breaking other teachers!!) the better.

@Adira: I was thinking about this today, and I'm with you on the pride thing of being EBF (I'm the same with my twins). I figured out how to look at it, though- you can think of it as, "I've never had to supplement with formula", as that is true. I know that it may seem silly to others, but I totally understand the mind set! I'm so sorry this happened, and I hope that both X and you are feeling better!

@Adira: Oh girl… I completely know how you're feeling right now, and about giving them a 2nd chance. It really was an honest mistake. I don't know if you ever read about my experience with Noelle's daycare - they fed her peanut butter as a snack when it is written in all her paperwork that she is extremely allergic. We ended up rushing her to urgent care, and they felt sooo terrible. I was really upset, but when I talked to the director and the teacher they both started crying and were visibly shaken by what happened. They became extra vigilant about things from there on out. Hopefully this will be a lesson learned for them and they'll be extra careful with Xander from here on out.
If you're interested in reading about daycare experience, it's here… it was really scary because it was Noelle's 2nd time getting exposed to PB, and I read that sometimes subsequent exposures to an allergen are even worse!

@meganmp: That's a good way to look at it! Thanks for that!
@Mrs. High Heels: Thank you for sharing your experience with Noelle's allergy incident at daycare! It makes me feel better to know that despite what happened, you still feel comfortable with her continuing to go there, because I think that's how I feel about Xander and his daycare too.
