We just toured a Day Care Center. We loved it–great location, good price, most of the staff has been there for years, etc. The one thing that concerned me is that the outdoor play area is covered in small 1″ stones–larger than gravel. And the 2 year olds were out there and a few of the boys were throwing handfuls of it at each other. It also doesn’t seem like a great substance to fall on. Should I be concerned?

Mix of everything at our center. I wouldn't be concerned.

Gravel and pea stone's not my favorite....but that's what the parks in our subdivision is made out of. E does fine. I don't really care, although i do prefer rubberized surfaces. But it's not a huge concern of mine by any means if it's not.

We either have grass or shredded tiny rubber specks. They turn everything black and drive me insane. I have a real issue with C's clothes getting dirty. I realize it's a losing battle but it makes my skin crawl.

I would just make sure the teachers are intervening in the throwing of stones. If that is nipped in the bud, I'd be okay with that as the outdoor ground cover.
