Do you ask the teachers first about how they want to handle it? Whether they want to distribute it or put in the kids mailboxes?
DD1 is in daycare / preschool and I'm planning on just putting the invites in the kids mailboxes. But don't know if I should ask her teachers first, just to be safe? We are not inviting the whole class.

We asked the teachers in advance--and actually handed them to the teachers to give out (we only invited 3 of her school friends). I also put the invitation inside plain white envelopes so it didn't look too fun from the outside.

Our teacher did it for us. But we invited the whole class so I don't know if that made a difference?

I would ask, since each place has its own policy regarding birthday party invitations

I only ask the teachers for help with who to invite, but we do the actual invites electronically to the parents.

Evites are the big thing now, but we all communicate electronically for stuff related to room requests, so there was no need to ask the teachers for the list or for them to do anything.
In this case, I think you should ask the teachers, be upfront that you're not inviting the entire class. Is there no way you could figure out a mailing address?

We don't invite the whole class - I handed them to the teacher and she put them in the mailboxes

@JoJoGirl: I have a pretty clear list on who I think she will want to invite. But I was thinking of asking her teachers if they would add any names. But I'm scared because I'm already at 19 kids including family and friends. We can only have a max of 20 kids!
@looch: not really. If the situation was reversed I wouldn't want them giving out my home address either? She's been invited to one daycare party so far and the invite was in her mailbox at school.

@regberadaisy: including PT kids there are 23 kids in her class - I asked her teacher to tell me which 12 kids she plays with the most - that's who I invited

There are written rules at our school. You can:
A. Contact single kids outside of school, they will provide contact information.
B. Invite the whole class.
They do not want to involve the teachers at all. There are 16 kids in her class.

I wouldn't put them in the mailboxes in class if you aren't inviting everyone. I got mailing addresses for everyone I wanted to invite by asking the parents (in person or via facebook message).

We've only gotten electronic invitations. Class mom email lists to the rescue.

I talked to the front office and they said to just slip it in the kids' mailboxes. She just mentioned that hopefully the envelopes aren't glaring "YOU"RE INVITED!!!" envelopes. LOL I was planning on using plain white envelopes anyway and just write the kids name in front like @woodentulip: mentioned.
