LO and I are most likely going to tag along with DH when he has to go for work in a few weeks. What would you recommend that your preschooler has enjoyed? We will be staying near the airport with a car and access to the metro.
I'm already planning on the Air and Space Museum and the zoo.

Which airport? If Dulles, air and space museum has a location out there that's less crowded than downtown
. Lo1 was kind of bored with it after not very long, but she wouldn't have lasted longer downtown either. She wanted to go in the planes, not see them lol. We took her once to the American history museum too and they have a small hands-on space but most of the rest was less exciting for her, she's used to more interactive museums

We don't live in D.C., just visit family there a lot. If it's still nice weather when you visit, there are lots of nice parks and playgrounds

@nana87: actually we will be near Reagan. That play place looks amazing! Hopefully the weather will be nice. I'm just excited to take him to explore a new place!

@jhd: You can drive over to Gravelly Point near Reagan - its a lookout point - and you can watch the planes lift off and land. Its pretty cool!

We enjoyed the zoo and the natural history museum and also the national cathedral; even if LO did shout out that the prayer candles were for Jesus' birthday and then loudly recite the happy birthday song 
There is also an Afghan restaurant close to the cathedral and zoo which is REALLY good.

And we also enjoyed the American Indian museum. They have a kids area that was fun for them to explore.

Our kids love the Air and Space and the Natural History Museum (they prefer the second one, I think), both of which are free. The National Building Museum is also a great choice, particularly the blue block room. The National Postal Museum was also a surprising hit.
