DD is 14 months tomorrow. We've been down to 2-3 sessions per day since I went back to work two months ago. Yesterday morning she nursed one side then popped off to go play. She nursed before bed for just a couple minutes and rolled away to sleep.
This morning she didn't even ask for it.
I'm so sad. I really didn't expect this reaction.
Is this the beginning of the end?
If you waited for your LO to self wean, how did it end?

DD self weaned at 10.5 months. She only nursed 2-3 times a day but it would be for a very short time. She was too busy playing to be bothered with nursing anymore. My supply dipped (I always had a low supply) and it became a struggle to get her to nurse so I eventually cut it off. "The end" all happened within 2 weeks.

I wouldn;t give up just yet, if you're not ready to wean. LO goes through phases where he is more or less interested. I just keep offering and he always comes back to it. So you can keep doing that and see what happens! Or if you're ready to wean, then maybe this is a good time?

Aw. DS has been nursing for a few mins in the morning then doing the sign for eat. It makes me sad because it's my favorite session. Plus it gives me time to wake up while we cuddle

@oliviaoblivia: this is exactly how it happened for us. About two months after I went back she stopped caring to nurse. Somewhere between 14 and 15 months she just stopped all together. I was actually pretty ok with it. I would offer to nurse her and she'd just grin and run away to play.

I am going through this right now too (LO will be 14-months next week). She has been going strong with the morning session and for the past few days has been really distracted (for example, she will hear the cat meow and want down to play). She only nursed for about 2-3 minutes total this morning. I thought she would keep the morning session longer, but apparently not. Hang in there!

@oliviaoblivia: aw hugs!! I imagine it must be so emotional...there's a bunch of hormone shifting when weaning DOES happen so just be prepared for that if this is it...I hope she decides she's not done yet though!

Ah, so sad! Not only sad for the loss of the time together but it makes your hormones go crazy! I am in the midst of a similar thing at the moment and I feel your pain. I had really thought we would go to 15 months (when I go back to work). Looking like maybe we won't. It's so sad--and in my case at least makes me feel bad about all the times I've complained about nursing.
@sheskrafty: I am in a similar position right now; can I ask what you did when she quit--did you give formula at that point? did she take it?

If you aren't ready keep offering. That's what I did when DS1 losing interest and we're still going strong now at 23 months.

@mjane: I was already supplementing with formula so she was used to it. I still had a tiny freezer stash so I was able to give her a daily bottle of bm for another 2 weeks. Good luck!!

Hugs! On R's 14-month, we stopped entirely. She's suck for comfort for, like, 10 seconds and then go to sleep so...That was the end for us!

Oh sad! I would keep offering too for a bit if I weren't ready. I thought I might be over it by now but I still enjoy the cuddles when we're nursing.
