In case anyone's Friday is as slow as mine and you want a way to pass time...

Any ideas what to do with this ridiculous space? I took it in panoramic view, so square it up a bit.

Layout issues:
Where I'm standing to take the picture, to the left is the kitchen and to the right is the entry way. The wall of windows is looking into our backyard with a beautiful view of trees. Door on the right leads to our basement, which we use all the time. If you look closely opposite the wall of windows, next to the fireplace wall, there is a large opening (6' wide) that goes into what will become a play room.

WHERE do I put furniture?! What pieces do we buy (we're just using everyone's leftover furniture for the time being). We don't want to block the windows, don't want to block the fireplace, don't want to block walkway to play room, can't block basement door, don't want to block flow to kitchen... Wtf...

Decorating tips/ideas? I feel like the room looks like a mess (besides the obvious too many pieces of furniture. We have one less recliner in there right now). I need to replace the ceiling fan, and want to ORB the gold on the fireplace. What color walls would look good? DH would probably try to divorce me if I even suggested painting the wood white.

What do I do with those fireplace shelves? They're beautiful, but DH and I aren't fond of trinkets and pretty decorating things, but normal useful stuff isn't pretty.
That itty bitty picture frame above the fireplace is gone (and the swing is gone now - YAY!)

If anyone has any ideas or color schemes, or ideas of pretty furniture/artwork/shelf ideas, I would welcome them all!
