Ok, over the next few weeks I am probably going to post several home decor questions. For one its my passion and two DH finally gave me the green light to finish the rooms. DH of course wants no part in the process except to ask how much it costs!

Today's question centers around windows for our family room. The goal is to get the room as dark as possible when watching movies.

We have sliding doors with extra full pane on either side and a transom on top. Then we have two skinny windows on the adjacent wall with small transoms too.

Here's what we are thinking. Black out drapes hung from above the transom for the sliders. The rod would be white to match the crown molding. Our floors are dark brown (@Mrs.Jacks: for that one). Then the small windows and transoms would be whute Plantation shutters. The shutter would be built to hide the fact there's about a foot of wall slave between window and transom to allow us to adjust light without having a step stool.

My other idea is to use Roman Shades on the small windows in matching slider fabric. But, what will we do with the transoms?

Do you think Plantation shutters so close to so much fabric will look okay? (Plantation shutters for the sliders is out-DH vetoed already). Also, I have scoured the Internet looking for inspiration photos with dilemma/ setup similar to mine and have come up empty handed.

Thanks for the input!
