When you're the designated driver, do you completely abstain from drinking? Or pace yourself, so you're drinking at the same rate (or slower) that your body metabolizes alcohol...
I abstain completely, and people sometimes look at me like I'm crazy if I decline to have a drink. That made me curious, so I thought I'd ask here!

A glass of wine or a beer at the beginning of the night. Maybe nothing though. And I don't think it's weird that a DD would have nothing at all!

Usually nothing. If anything it would be a few sips or maybe one drink if I'll be out for a few hours, but I prefer to abstain if I'll be driving at some point, I just feel more comfortable that way.

I will have a drink at the beginning of the night, assuming we will be there a while. I wouldn't think it was crazy if a DD had none though.

I'll drink one glass of wine or beer early on or nothing at all if it's a short night (i.e. 2 hours or less from the time we arrive to the time we will leave).
And yeah, when I say I'm not drinking because I'm DD I often get the "are you pregnant" question and looks. Nope, really just not drinking!

I don't think I have been a DD in a long time! But DH will usually have one drink (beer or wine) at the beginning of the night with food and lots of water after that.

@mrbee: Depends on how long the event is. Baseball game for 3+ hours? 1 drink. Movie? No drinks. I think 3 hours or more is the cutoff for me.

Just a glass of wine or beer at the beginning of the night or nothing. No liquor. FL cops love to issue DUI's and I know so many people with one under their belt, I've never played around with it.

I would drink what I would feel normally comfortable drinking and driving with. AKA one glass of wine with dinner. I dont think it would change on if I was DD or driving myself.

I would have one. I would have two but it would depend on how long we were staying. A afternoon/evening BBQ or something where we were for 5 hours I would be fine with 2.

It would depend on how long we are staying, but I would have 2 max. One drink an hour in the beginning if it's an all night kind of thing. Nothing within 2 hour before leaving.

I might have one drink very early on but otherwise, I won't have any alcoholic drinks. It's not hard for me to not drink.

Nothing or 1 glass very early in the evening (giving at least 2 hours) for it to get out of my system followed by a few glasses of water.
