Do you think it would be ok to have a decaf caramella? Wouldn't want my baby to resist his naps!!!

I have 1 cup regular coffee/day in the morning and it has had 0 effect on my baby.

Try it and see - I have heard both sides of the story - that it DOES and that it DOESNT effect the baby!

I had an occasional frappuccino while breastfeeding. I don't think it affected my LO.

I found caffeine had zero affect on Xander (unless maybe that's why he was so wakeful as a baby... but he wasn't fussy, so I didn't stop drinking coffee).

I had coffee while nursing (usually one cup decaf/one cup half-caff) and never had any issues that I could tell.

@Leah: I feel your pain! ! My LO was absolutely sensitive to coffee. It made her gassy and kept her up. During her 4 month regression it got so bad I slowly brought decaf back into my system.
It seems though that for the vast majority caffeine doesn't affect their LO's.

@locavore_mama: I am pretty sensitive to caffeine myself and usually stick to decaf.

Never affected my LO. I feel your pain though - I'm cutting caffeine out of my diet because of some medical issues and it is freaking killing me, I'm such a zombie!

@Adira: as much as I want a coffee treat, naps are already too hard! I'm hoping he won't be affected!

@wonderstruck: have you ever tried Roma?? It's no caffeine but tastes just like coffee. Even my coffee addict mom has it when she's at my house.

@Leah: enjoy your coffee! Hope it has zero effect on baby for you!

@Leah: I don't actually drink coffee, the caffeine I'm trying to kick is Mountain Dew! I've been hooked since high school and never evolved to more adult beverages like coffee, haha. And unfortunately I have to stay away from anything sugary in general, was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes But good luck and enjoy your coffee!

Depending on the caffeine concentration/amount, I think you could be okay! DS wasn't affected by it unless I accidentally had waaaay too much.

I was able to drink my 2 cups of coffee and didn't cause an issue with either LO.

I'd say if you really feel like you need it, have it. See if it affects the baby. In my case, it didn't. I became a coffee-a-holic after she was born.

My LOs spit up like waterfalls when I drink caffeine (especially diet coke?!!?) but I drink decaf with no problems. Hope you're enjoying that coffee right now!

L never had any problems with me drinking coffee. I was probably up to 2-3 cups per day during my short stint of BFing. She was only getting 50% BM though, so I don't know if that plays into it at all.

@Leah: what's Roma? Most days I miss the taste of real coffee more than the caffeine itself!
clementine / 927 posts
@locavore_mama: It is a roasted grain beverage. It looks and smells just like instant coffee. Once you figure out the right ratio of Roma to water, it is surprisingly similar to coffee. I get mine at Whole Foods or the nearby health food shop.
