What have you found to be the best remedy for diaper rash?
DD got her first diaper rash (we noticed it Sunday early evening). We've been putting Boudreaux Butt Paste on it at every diaper change since then and now it's Wednesday afternoon and it doesn't seem to have gotten any better. It isn't getting worse, but no improvement either.
What have you found to work for you? Is it normal for it to take this long? It just looks so raw; I know it can't be comfortable for her.

you could try some diaper free time (putting her on a blanket that you don't mind getting peed on). it might be a yeast infection since it sounds like it's persistent, you may want to call the nurse's line at your ped's office.

we usually use desitin max strength (in the purple tube) which worked for us, but i imagine that the butt paste would be about the same. hope she feels better soon!

We use Desitin and really paste it on. It seems to work well! We had luck with the butt paste too.
I recall reading about the "diaper free time" that @edelweiss: mentioned. But I never understood how I could let my little guy run around naked without the chance of him peeing everywhere.

@sweetooth: yeah, i put my LO on an activity mat, thinking that it would catch any pee and i could wash it--10 seconds later i saw a puddle of pee sitting right outside the edge of the activity mat.

It is inconvenient but I found the absolute best thing is nappy free time. Easier with a non mobile LO of course! This was the only thing that worked for my DS when he has a terrible rash as a newborn. I also did oat baths which I still do now for his excema, I think that helped soothe the rash. We have a cream called metanium but I think it's probably only on sale in the UK. Also using water wipes or cotton wool and water, as normal baby wipes can irritate it more.

We use Triple Paste which is similar to what you're already using. For our diaper free time I would put down chux pads (or puppy pads would work I suppose) on top of his blanket.

Aquahor, but when it was a yeast rash we got a prescription for nystatin and put it on first then the aquaphor.

Tummy time without a diaper (use a changing pad or a few blankets for accidents) and triple paste. Boudreaux did nothing for us but triple paste healed in a few hours.

Another vote for triple paste. It's the best. Clears any rash up within the day.

DS has had some awful rashes from thrush, then antibiotics. What works for us is:
- Cloth wipes or wash cloths instead of regular baby wipes
- A&D ointment as a protective barrier
- baking soda in the bath
- Oatmeal in the bath (either ground up, or stuck in a sock or pantyhose).
I think the oatmeal was the most helpful in actually healing his skin.

This is the best stuff ever! Layered with aquaphor it will clear up a bad rash in no time. Triple paste works but she was getting yeast rashes, the paste made it worse, so we stopped using it.

Extra strength desitin! Also if the rash is not going away it could be yeast. Yeast in the diaper rash area usually look spotted or speckled.

I'll third the Desitin (purple). We've had two really bad diaper rashes and that was the only thing that worked well. Butt paste didn't at all.

@lady grey: I'm 95% sure it isn't yeast. It doesn't look anything like the photos I've seen of yeast rashes.
