I didn't see it but a friend did. She said there were 3 sad parts (3 people die) but no scary parts. The PG seems to be for the deaths.

@mediagirl: did she take any kids? I want to take my 4 yr old but not sure...

@Mamaof2: yeah a 3 year old and a 5 year old. The 3 year old was fine, 5 year old was sad over the people who died. But otherwise it was fantastic, apparently.

@mediagirl: good to know...I wanted to take my 6 year old niece and wanted to be sure it wasn't too scary!

My MIL saw it and I asked her if she thought it would be ok for our almost 3 year old and she said "maybe" (I think she didn't want to commit in case I took LO and she freaked out lol ) She said at the beginning the mom and dad die, which is sad and might be upsetting for littles. And of course the step-mother is evil.
MIL's biggest concern was that live action vs. cartoon wouldn't hold LO's attention.

@Mamaof2: Common Sense Media has a great breakdown of the issues that might pop up for kids:

My five-year-old son watched Big Hero Six the other day (recommended for 7+) and he was really shaken by the death of one of the characters... I think if I had warned him beforehand and reminded him that the story is made up, that would've helped!

DH and I went yesterday and there were lots of little kids there. I thought it was great, but wonder if toddlers might get bored since it isn't a cartoon. I don't really know what kids like to watch though!

I loved it!
But I thought it focused a lot on the sad/sentimental side of the story and not as much light-hearted fun as the cartoon version. (Parents passing away, being alone, etc.)

@yoursilverlining: @mrbee: SPOILER ALERT: in this version the King also dies, so they're both without parents

Watched it and loved it! Cate Blanchett is amazing. Lily James was perfect for the role too!

I really enjoyed the movie, but it was definitely a little "slower" than the cartoon. There is no music and it definitely feels a little melancholy at points. There were plenty of kids there when we went though, and there weren't many problems with any of them.

I took my 2.5 year old and she sat somewhat through it. It was a long movie and she got a little bored. If you take your Lo I would suggest going for an early show, we took her to a 12 show on a Saturday and lots of kids and parents were there so they didn't mind dd asking questions
