I found out recently that a friend of mine is pregnant with her third child. She was on the pill when she got pregnant!!!
Has anyone else here have a surprise baby while using birth control?

I got pregnant while I was on BC, but I skipped/missed a few days so it was my fault!

Was she taking it religiously? The stories I usually hear about people getting pregnant while on the pill usually involve some slippage...but of course, anything is possible!

Nope, not in 10 years of taking it. I was one of those fanatics that took it the same time of the day, even taking the placebo pills so I didn't get out of the habit.

@Andrea: I gave her a really hard time about it because I'm so cynical. She said she was absolutely religious with it and didn't miss a day. I said, not even once? She said nope and she was absolutely floored when she found out she was pregnant.
They had just gotten rid of all of their old baby stuff, too!

I didn't, but a friend of mine did. She ended up being a couple months pregnant when she got married.

I never had any pregnancy scares (or pregnancies) while on BC, and I was on various forms of birth control (pills, patch, IUD) for over 10 years.
The only people I personally know who got pregnant while “on” birth control skipped pills and/or wanted children but their partner didn’t and they got pregnant only after their b/c “somehow failed”.
needless to say, I’m a bit of a skeptic, although nothing is 100% effective.

nope. i was religious about taking my bcp at the same time of day every day.

Nope. Not in 13 years on the pill... however, I always doubled up on birth control until my mid-20s (pill + condoms). Once I was in a committed relationship and old enough to feel like an unplanned pregnancy wouldn't be the end of my world I became a little more laid back, but the pill still worked great for me until I was ready to do away with it.

No I always used Depo before I got married. I love tht stuff haha! After we got married I had it taken out the day after the honeymoon so I could start trying for kids.

I have several friends who have conceived while taking the pill religiously - even one who was taking the pill very carefully + using condoms to avoid pregnancy!

I have a friend who got pregnant with BOTH of her children while on the pill. And took it 100% religiously. I think some people's body make up is just more susceptible to birth control failure than others.

I've heard that if you're on the low-dose pills and you're overweight they're not as effective. I of course don't know your friend's situation, but it could be a different explanation
