LO was the first grandchild on both sides and she was showered with attention. I feel kinda bad for my newborn niece...my MIL has only seen her once and she lives about 15 minutes away. My FIL hasn't seen her yet and says he "might" go visit her next week. I'm not expecting a lot for my baby who is due next month...lol!

Yep! My kids are the only grand kids on my side. They're so spoiled! I haven't had to buy much stuff for either of them! Only diapers..
They're grand kid #3 and 4 on dh's side but the inlaws don't play favorites and have showered the kids with so much! Furniture, clothes, books, toys.. Trust fund! -
G & P get the same amount of attention from my mom.... P definitely gets more attention from DH's mom since she's his "first". (yes it kinda bugs me)

Yes and she's only 5 months older than my LO
I pointed it out to my mom so she's been trying harder to pay attention to my daughter but its hard. Especially since my niece is learning to crawl and just got her first tooth...I'm scared those things won't be as exciting when my LO gets there.

My parents treat DD (first grandchild) like a princess and my DS totally gets the shaft. They volunteer to pick up DD from pre school but won't pick up DS ( they are at the same center). They say they are doing me a favor by picking her up, but since I still have to get DS it's not all that helpful. Last year she got an Easter basket but none for him, excuse was he's too young to notice haha. They are going to have to adjust soon when he is able to notice the disparity in attention!

He is the first on both sides. My parents favor him over my two nieces. He gets more money in his red envelopes and gets super spoiled by their love and affection. It's not fair, and I point that out to my parents all the time. My nieces are very close in age to my LO, but they are mixed (my LO is also mixed but of the Asian variety). I think it comes down to my LO looking more like them. Sigh.

Yes...ds is first for my parents. BUT, we live only 15 minutes away, and my niece, who is a couple years younger than him, is an 8 hour drive away. So, he spends a lot of time with them.
BUT, when she does come we all fuss over her, and my son and her adore each other.

On one side our first daughter was first and on the other side she was 6th. We noted no difference in attention.

LO's cousins on both sides of the family are older AND live closer, so she gets the least attention. It's just the way it is
but I don't think anyone loves her any less. Everyone acts super excited to see her.

Mine isn't first on either side...but maybe that's balanced by her being the first girl of her generation, so the family is really excited about her! I'd like to think she'd get her due spoiling by grandparents regardless.

My LO is first (an only so far) on both sides. She is so spoiled right now, but my parents are all about being fair so I bet all the future ones will be spoiled as well.

Not exactly. The first grandchildren were born to the black sheep cousin. She doesn't concern herself with us and we don't with her. Everyone fawned over another cousin's first born. I even traveled along way to gift and decorate the nursery. My mom even sent a gorgeous, fancy dress for her 1st bday. So yeah, that baby received lots of attention.

Yes for my twins. They are my in laws only grandkids. I think my mom spent more time w my twins than my bros son who was born first because she was helping me out. But they live closer and have a newborn so my parents definitely see them more often now.

My baby will be the first grandchild on both sides. I think he/she will be completely spoiled until another grandchild comes along (which could be a while). I'm not concerned about my parents at all as they will make sure all of their grandchildren will receive equal attention. I am, however, a little worried about my MIL. One of my BIL's is her favorite and it's incredibly obvious to everyone in the family so I can see her doing this with a grandchild down the road.

LO is the first on my side and completely spoiled by my parents. She's not the first on DH's side and we don't live near them like our niece and nephew do. My ILs definitely love my LO, but the first grandchild gets more attention, for sure.

We absolutely notice the different between my family, where C is the first baby and DH's, where he is fourth. We aren't local for either and get 10 times more visits from my family (which I don't really mind
)
but I don't think anyone loves her any less. Everyone acts super excited to see her.
