The previous owners left their cheesy backyard statues, a HUGE stash of single ply toilet paper, pool cleaning equipment and some old school fly traps!

Oh god yes. Bunch of crap! When we originally got the keys they hadn't entirely packed yet, so there were a bunch of very expensive paintings that I was hoping they abandoned. No such luck! We just got the junk.

A weird necklace (not expensive) and an old box of onion ring batter! Both were trashed!

A huge stack of car magazines from the late 1950's in the attic, and ham radio antennas/wires buried in the woods in the backyard. I also found a dog license from 1975 in the kitchen window sill when I first opened that window. Lots of random stuff like that.

just a lovely (not) paint job...they paint dumb trees and bushes and not so nice words on the wall..plus they took the downstairs toilet and vanity and all the inside doors off the hinges..it was crazy...thankfully the bank replaced the doors, toilet, and vanity...but they did hire crappy painters that colored the house in off white color...i told them we would do it ourselves..

Yup, they left us a ton of useful stuff!! All the left over paint they'd used, including a 5 gallon tub of the interior paint, some exterior paint, lots of stains, cleaning products, etc. Other than that, everything was cleared out except for a giant goalie thing in the yard, but we had them remove it as part of the agreement.

bubble wrap and a couple brand new sealed rolls of a lint brush sticky paper refills.

We asked them to leave their lawnmower as a part of the sale which was awesome. And they left us all the paint that was used in the house. But then they left dumb stuff like hangers everywhere, a spare tire (for a BMW, need to sell that on craigslist!) and other random annoying stuff.
Am I the only person who leaves a place sparkling clean and organized?!

The previous owners were nice enough to leave us extra paint and wallpaper for every room in the house along with some misc. cleaning products and bottled water! Very nice of them I thought

Yes. They didn't clean out under the crawl space and I was too naive to check it before closing. There were old tires under there, junky chairs and other assorted garbage.

There were a few things in the garage. One was an old crib.

A basement full of stuff including a bear statue, pro marijuana legalization bumper stickers, hydroponic fertilizer, lots of lights, and a diary. They were and probably still are very, very, special people.

They just left the paint that was used throughout the house. Otherwise, they did an amazing job packing up and cleaning their house when they moved out. We were lucky!

Just cleaning supplies. They did give us an embosser with the house address at closing since they no longer had a need for it. Luckily it is just the address and not their last name.

Lots of stuff!
Storage Units (like shelves) in Basement
Paint & Painting Supplies (rollers, trays, etc)
Chemicals (like weed killer, bug killer, cleaning supplies)
Keurig Machine
Rolling Island for Kitchen
Grill
Plastic Deck Furniture
Weed Whacker
Tools (Rakes, Hoes, Shovels, Brooms, etc)
32" CRT TV
And included in our contract, they had to leave:
Curtain Rods
Bookcases
Bedroom Furniture (Bed, 2 Dressers, TV Stand)
Lawn Mower
Snow Blower

They left half a case of water in the fridge for us And all the leftover paint and tile used in the house as well.

The weirdest of it was all the cat stuff. A statue in front, curtains in the basement, and a door with them painted on!

one nice set of curtains in the master bedroom and one water stained set in the living room.

As a part of our agreement, they left all kitchen appliances, curtain rods, and mirrors. In addition, they left us a lot of t rash and dirt, all the appliances and cabinets were extremely dirty, and they took the keys, so we had to track down the old owner.

Wow! I can't believe all of the stuff people left behind. There was nothing in our house, but it had been foreclosed on for a year before we even looked at it.

@Adira: left a keurig??? Crazy!
Hmmm they left some curtains, microwave, a huge heavy ass television, and a broom
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
Yup! But the most awesome is a metal file thingie with tons of old documents and original hand drawn elevations of the house!
I think these were all from the original owners bc we found them during demolition.
You cam imagine the giddiness of this architect's heart when we found them! Def framing the elevations.

@runnerd: Yes! That was the best surprise!! I suspect they either didn't have room or forgot it. They also left some k-cups including coffees, hot chocolates, and teas!

They left a falling apart entertainment center, some left over paint, and I had been to their garage sale before we closed and bought their dining set. They ripped all the shelving above the windows down, made big holes, and tried to take the wood blinds.
My parents house previous owners take the cake though. They bought a 20 acre farm, they left 5 horses with no papers and no way to track the original owners, 1 cat, and tried to leave their boxer. Lots of personal papers, clothes, rotting food, toys....They had to hire a cleaning company to come in and clean the place, and took many many loads to the dump and goodwill. It was gross. It was clean and really nice when we looked at it. All the owners came to get the horses that they were "boarding" two years later, I was heartbroken

Yep, spare carpet, a bunch of paint, random Indian spices and incense, bricks and a ridiculous amount of tennis balls.
As part of the agreement they left the fridge and the curtains

Our home was brand new, but the builders left behind lots of leftover paint and some tiles and stuff which I thought was awesome

@autumnlove: Yes! I picked my favorite out of them, we had the vet, and shoer come out, cleaned the 3 feet of nastiness out of the barn, slowly gained her trust and got her into riding condition. Then they took her away, we didn't see a dime for what we did, we even consulted an attorney. A horse is like a vehicle, it has papers like a vehicle and is a legal transaction.
Here's a pic of "Babe" about a year after we moved in.

Most of their furniture. Mid century and original to the house. We got some really awesome pieces, actually.
