I was paranoid and I didn't want baby things in my house that early so I probably wouldn't get specific baby gear. What about something like target gift cards so you could use it for baby gear but also could use it for yourself?

We got a camcorder from BIL which was nice!

Our LO should be here by Christmas time this year (unless I am a month overdue LOL), but this came up during my birthday a couple of months ago (when I was about 6 months along). My in-laws really wanted to get me something specifically for me, and not for baby, but I just wanted baby stuff. They got me our crib

I will be 38 weeks at Christmas (36 when we celebrate with our families). I have been TRYING to come up with a Christmas list that isn't all baby stuff. I finally decided to ask for a Kindle (so I can read at night in baby's room, rather than having to turn on a bright light and/or use my super-bright phone screen), a desktop 6-pack fridge (for storing my pumped milk at work), and some gift cards (like Destination Maternity, so I can get nursing gear, and Amazon so I can order stuff for me OR for baby). It's really hard, though, cuz right now my brain is all baby-baby-baby!

@mellybelly: Agreed. I am not really a crier during happy occasions (just sad ones) and I bawled LOL. I actually had to work all day on my feet during my birthday this year, and I came home to the house decorated, dinner ready, and the fully assembled crib in the nursery. It was fantastic.

I don't think that I would have asked for baby items that early. I would be too nervous of something going wrong.

I think a camera, maternity clothes gift cards, are great ideas though. All things you will need but not out right baby gifts.

My birthday and Christmas are close, so I will probably ask for a few baby things. I'll be 33 weeks pregnant and I'll have already had my shower. I'd probably ask for a print for the nursery or a fancy etsy thing I won't register for. I also want a nice diaper bag - maybe for my birthday from my husband.

i would definitely ask for baby things, but i'm not superstitious. it's insane how much a little baby needs, so i would prefer to use that opportunity to get things for the baby. most people don't get everything they need at their shower (especially the big, expensive stuff), so christmas would really help! during christmas this year i'll be 33 weeks and we will have already had our shower, so we're just asking for whatever is left on the registry.

ps: i got my stroller during my first trimester, so i don't think it's ever too early to start stocking up!

i'll be 37w on christmas, but i still would like something for myself, not just baby. i figure the rest of the holidays will be about them, so we can do one more for us.

I was 13 weeks Christmas and didn't ask for baby stuff, partially because I was scared to 'jinx it' but mostly because I had no clue exactly what we needed, it took several months of research and reading to figure out what items to ask for!

We didn't tell anyone we were pregnant till I was in my 2nd trimester. I had bleeding early on and didn't want to jinx myself.

Baby is due just before Christmas, so ALL we've bought this year is baby stuff. We're not doing regular gifts at all. This is what happens when you have a baby and buy a house in the same year, haha.

We bought a stroller and carseat because there was a good deal and we had heard the heartbeat several times and then we mced Hindsight being 20/20 I wish we would have waited becasue everytime I go in the basement and see the baby stuff I want to cry.

A pregnancy pillow is a great idea! I bought it for my BFF for Xmas when she was preggers, but no one got me one when I needed it (wasn't near any occasion) and it was like "ouch" to spend $75 on the Snoogle + another $25 later for a soft jersey cover! Target GCs are nice cuz you can also use it on LIz Lange Maternity clothes and belly creams for yourself!
