@AprilK: I could see that happening to us! I think we will bring it, just in case I'm able to get some good pictures of the baby sleeping or something, but I won't be surprised if it stays packed the whole time. Our hospital doesn't have a photographer who comes around.

I did but forgot about it. My MIL took some pictures immediately after the birth with her point-and-shoot..I wish I had remembered I had the DSLR and given it to her to use.
ETA: DH used it to take some pictures of us that night, and I took some of him the next day. I just wish I had some better ones from the first few minutes.

I didn't have a smart phone at the time, the DSLR was my only camera, so we brought it! I still think ill bring it next time too

@Foodnerd81: Well... our situation was kind of crazy b.c I went into labor at 34 weeks 4 days. He was totally fine but they took him to the nicu anyways, so I was constantly up there instead of in my room, so I didn't really have any "sit and look at the baby time" it was more "DUDE, when are they going to let me take home my perfectly healthy, 4-days-too-early-to-get-out-of-nicu-time baby" (hospital had auto nicu time for anyone under 35 weeks..... boo). So maybe I'd use it for #2 if I get past that point!

Yes. My husband was snapping pictures left and right (not below though lol) of the delivery. We will be doing it again!

We did, but my husband has no idea how to use my camera. All of the L+D pics are on his iPhone. The nurse was actually the one taking pictures during the last push and right after she was born, and I wouldn't have trusted her with my camera. I took pictures over the next two days though!

We did, but it was so crazy and chaotic we never took it out must used out cameras and a point and shoot.

Yep! Also took our point and shoot too. I'm the only one who really knows how to use the DSLR. I took a bunch of the baby with it.

Yes! I'm glad we did, but during delivery, I didn't think to check the setting and set it to Auto. So most of the birth/immediately after-birth pictures are all blurry and out of focus. But at least I remembered to tell DH to give the camera to a nurse right before baby came out!

I'm not going to because I don't want to bring a flash unit. I have a good point and shoot and that'll be fine. I'm doing her newborn portraits at home

I wanted to but decided not to because i'm the only one who can use it.

I am planning on bringing ours and setting it to auto so DH can snap away! It also takes really nice video.

No. We brought a point and shoot and didn't even use that much. Our phones were the most handy so that's what we used.

No, but I want to bring it next time! Although our iphones did a pretty good job
