On our tour they mentioned bringing extra pillows. Did anyone do this?
Did you bring anything else out of the norm?

I think I did but I honestly cant remember because I was so exhausted after delivery and then overwhelmed by breastfeeding challenges, visitors, etc.

I brought two pillows with cheap target pillowcases. Hospital pillows are usually coated with plastic so that they can be cleaned easily. Obviously there's a case over that but still... it was nice to have my own pillows!

I can't sleep without my own pillow so, yes! DH & I both brought pillows from home. We also brought our own snacks.

nope. with the car seat and everything else (since we don't have a car) there was no room for extra luxuries!
nectarine / 2530 posts
nope! never missed it (but I'm not picky about pillows). I do wish I had had DH bring the boppy in from the car, instead of listening to the LC. The boppy made BF'ing much easier once I was home!

Yes....so important! The pillows at the hospital are awful. We brought one for me and one for DH.
papaya / 10560 posts
Nope, I needed more and just asked and they gave them to me. I did bring a boppy though and couldn't have done without it!

Nope, we try not to overpack and the hospital pillows were fine for us!

We brought pillows for each of us, and I was happy to have my own pillow.
Only thing out of the ordinary that I wish I'd brought was some throat lozenges. My throat was so sore after because I used the nitrous gas a lot because the anesthesiologist never showed up with my epidural...

Nope, I had already over packed too much so a pillow would have been an extra to bring along. Hospital pillows were fine for my stay.

Yes! And I'm so glad I did. It's nice to have comfortable pillows in a foreign environment.

No, I brought the minimum amount of stuff. Hospitals aren't that clean and I was grossed out thinking about bringing everything back into my house.
bananas / 9357 posts
Yes! I think I brought like 3 pillows and a body pillow. They came in very handy. I'm the type that takes my own pillow with me when I travel.

Left it in the car. We over packed and lugging around an extra pillow was too much. I did bring the Boppy the second time because I wanted any help I could get with breastfeeding.

I had like twelve in the car (it was a 45 minute drive in hard labor) but I didn't bring them in.

Not at first and then I made DH go back and get one. He was stopping by the house to check on our dog anyway. We had to stay a couple of nights due to csection.

Yes!! So critical. The hospital pillows are way fat and smell strongly of the bleach they wash the sheets in. I just wanted my usual pillow to sleep on
pomegranate / 3791 posts
I meant to (our hospital also said that on the tour), but forgot about it the day of (despite writing it on my list!) It wasn't really a big deal, theirs weren't as nice as mine at home but it wasn't awful. I'd say it's a nice plus if you remember it though.

I did! I left them in the car until after my delivery, but since I was in recovery for 5 days I got them the next day!
bananas / 9118 posts
No, but I wish I had. I will this time, but will probably leave it in the car until after delivery.

I brought my usual pillow. I'm a really bad sleeper and knew I'd have problems in a hospital bed. I loved having my pillow. I wish I could have brought my own bed
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
I'm not, but we decided to leave DH's stuff at home and he can go home each day and shower and change (we live about 10 minutes from the hospital) and I figured if I wanted my pillows after I got there I can have him grab them.
I am bringing his swimming trunks though! Hopefully I'll be able to use the shower during labor for pain relief and I want him with me. And maybe to help me with that first shower post partum. Lol

Yes. I am so glad I did too because hospital pillows are sooo not comfy. We brought both of our pillows do he would have something comfy to sleep on as well. I actually ended up using both while in labor.

We wish we would have. The hospital was having a baby boom of sorts. Luckily they had one more pillow for DH

Not at first- but since my induction took so long and DH had Togo home and take care of the dog and got me a couple pillows!
watermelon / 14206 posts
No, but I wish I had. I didn't expect to transfer, and after all the trauma, it would have been nice to have my own pillow so that I could sleep well.
pomegranate / 3779 posts
I brought my own - but I am super picky about pillows and usually take mine when I travel. I was really glad since I ended up in the hospital for 5 nights!
I made sure and put a brightly colored pillow case on it so it was obvious it was ours and it wouldn't get mixed up with the hospital linens.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
Yes. I think we brought two extra (one for me and one for DH).
It really helped because often when trying to nurse in a hospital bed (yuck) I needed the extra pillows either behind my back or under my arms.
@stine_ciro: I agree, bringing a colorful pillowcase is really helpful.

The hospital I delivered both of my boys at gave me pillows when I needed more.
pomelo / 5720 posts
Yes, we both wanted our own pillows and I am so glad we brought them! The hospital ones are not comfy. We also brought our own snacks, drinks, and toiletries and I was glad we did that too.

@MrsH: yes I just wanted my own pillow for comfort. Tell your DH good luck with those pull out beds
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Nope. The hospital said I could have as many pillows as I wanted, but if I wanted to bring my own as a comfort item, I could. Fortunately, the hospital pillows weren't bad at all! I had like 5 during labor for support, but just one in the postpartum room.
