Everyone at work keeps telling me that I need to bring the baby in to meet them while I'm on leave. Is it bad that I don't really want to? Its a long commute and I want to soak up every minute away that I have with my baby. With the nature of my job it most likely wouldn't just be a visit either...I'd end up getting asked questions or handed some work. Maybe they can just meet me for lunch

I probably will, but it's only 15 minutes from the house and I most likely will be announcing that I won't be returning to work in the same trip. Two birds, one stone!

I visited once because one of my coworkers ( who was super awesome!) was retiring and I wanted her to see the baby. I also had lunch with my lunch crew once or twice. I didn't do any real walk around the office visits though.
I did do a drop-by at DH's job. OMG his coworkers were amazingly generous to us so I had to bring the baby. Plus he's like super popular there so everyone knew the baby's name and was very excited to meet her. He works in a school.
Going to his job was more fun and less stressful. Bonus it made DH's day.

@tlcbaby: Same-- I'll probably bring the baby in when I sit down with my manager to tell them I'm not coming back! It is a bit of a commute for me, but if I do it in the middle of the day it should be OK. And no one would ever try to give me work while I'm there, people are good about realizing when you are on leave, you are on leave, period.
ETA: My close work friend (we are actually friends outside of work too) actually came and met me outside a few times while she was on leave-- she didn't want to go through the whole production of seeing everyone, but wanted to have a lunch date.

It was my first year at my school, so I didn't have many friends yet, but I didn't bring him in mainly because I didn't want him around the germy students. I brought him in on my second day back when we were having meetings and students weren't there.

@katsupgirl: We will definitely have to go to DH's work! Its not far from home, and all the other police officers on his shift make a big deal over babies.

Yep. Even thought it was a 45 minute drive, I took him anyways. I went when my DH was on winter break so he could come with me. I also waited until after he was 2 months. Everyone loved seeing him. I also took him to DH's work and the ladies went crazy over him. lol

Yes. Both to my office and to DH's office. And my office keeps asking me to bring her back! (She has already been back to DH's office because its closer. )

Nope, they came to me and brought me lunch.

I did because my husband worked for the same company, so when I went to meet him for lunch, I went and said hi to everyone there.

No but only because I'm a teacher librarian and I'm only taking maternity leave during summer vacation. If I make it till June 17 that's the last week of school anyway.

I haven't decided if I will or not. It's a really short drive, but the co-workers who love babies tend to be really grabby and do a big giant freak out whenever there is a baby around. I'm really low-key and don't want the attention, to be honest!

I'm going to have to, because they're going to circumcise him! (Unless I can convince DH that foreskin is totally okay.)
@bookworm: I'd be the most worried about the grabby part, IMO. If I was just bringing him to show off, I'd be carting around a huge bottle of Purell!

Probably will go by next week. I have to bring a note to HR from the doctor that I cleared to go back to work anyway. I know the ladies all want to see her.

Nope. I work in an ICU and there are way too many germs! I delivered at my hospital and everyone knows better than to even come up and visit on L&D because we don't want to bring the cooties up there when visiting each other. Too bad though. It was strange to be in the hospital and not see my coworkers. They made sure to call and check on us!

Yeah I did. He mainly stayed in his carseat though.

I don't want to but I feel like I should. I'm hoping if I leave him in his carseat, no one will touch him or try to get him out and hold him.
My coworkers were mocking the other new moms for making everyone use hand sanitizer and I took great offense to that. If you're asking to hold a newborn, be willing to wash your hands without complaint!

DH and I brought her in about a week before I went back to work. She stayed in her stroller the whole time and didn't get passed around or anything - everyone just peeked in at her. It was a good visit and I think it helped with my transition back to the office.

I don't have this problem as I quit work before lo was born but you may find that you want to get out of the house and see more people after the first couple weeks! Just don't promise anything!

I did when LO was about 4 months old. I went on the Friday before a long weekend, so the office vibe was a little more low-key. I'm glad I waited until then because of the grabby issue @bookworm: pointed out, and unlike when people visit us, I couldn't make everyone wash their hands before holding the baby! But I think it was nice that my boss got to meet him, and people did appreciate that I brought him in.

I live very close to my work. The first time We went in after he was a month on a slow day when everyone wouldn't be there. I think we went a total of 4 times while I was on leave.

No, I work with all men and it just isn't that kind of environment. I did email an announcement and got lots of nice responses. My coworkers are pretty spread out, too

Yep - but I'm only 10 minutes from the office and good friends with a lot of my co-workers. They had been bugging me did a whe to bring her in but I waited until get 2 month shots and took her the next day. It was so exciting to see their faces and hear them gush over her so I'm glad we went!

I was in today and not a word of a lie I think LO was in 30 different people's arms! I never had time to be social at work when I was working, so it's so nice to stop in and be a social interuption or go for lunch with colleagues!

I feel like this too! I've got enough to do without travelling into work so a bunch of people can see my baby! Why do they need to see my baby? I certainly don't want her passed around with all those germs - and that's inevitable it seems. My friend took hers into her workplace and her DH's workplace in the first week! Not for me thank you!
Any close friends I have at work (there are a couple from my current office but a lot from my previous job), I will meet for coffee or lunch. Everyone else will have to be content with a picture via email!!

I plan to but I live only about 10 minutes from work. Plus I work predominantly with men (about 4 women) so not many of them will get grabby with LO. The women are all very good and understanding about hand sanitizer and what not. I also plan to take LO to the day care (about 5 mins from work) around the same time (maybe 2 months ish) to introduce her there too.
As for DH's work - not sure I'll bring her in there b/c to be honest I am not sure how many women work there or would care to meet her?!? I'll leave it up to him!

i did, but when people bring their babies in it's generally a nice event with snacks and chitchat. if i was going to be asked work questions, i would probably make up an excuse not to go.

We go in once a month. My office is a 20 minute walk which is a perfect outing. It keeps me in the loop.

I went at about 5 weeks. It is a 40 min drive each way, so it was a big outing. It went well and everyone was happy to meet him. I doubt I'll go again though and I have a year off.

I plan on it, maybe once he's around 3 months? I will definitely bring him to DH's work too.
