Did you buy a special chair for baby's room or nursing? Hubs and I will still be in our 1 bedroom apartment for a while after LO is here, so I am wondering if a special chair is really work it. LO's crib will be in the room with us, and I would think that I could nurse on the bed or go out to the livingroom.
Any thoughts?

I didn't, and now I'm totally regretting it. Like you, I figured I could just nurse in our bed or living room, and while it worked out fine, I noticed that she gets so much more relaxed when we are a glider-type chair. She's already 5 months old but I'm considering purchasing one because she seems to really enjoy snuggling and nursing in it...

It's not necessary, but I vastly prefer nursing in our recliner/glider to our bed or couch.

Yup, we're buying a glider...I figure that back and forth motion will probably be soothing to baby, and it'll be nice to have a place to sit in his room.

We did get one and for now we're all in the same room and I much prefer nurisng in bed. I feel like she's getting too long for the glider and positioning her is weird in the glider with the armrest. And it squeaks when I get up so it wakes her up sometimes!
I don't know if we'll use it more when we move into the new house and she'll be in her own room.

I posted a few threads here to see what others thought about chairs/gliders and got mixed reviews. Some loved it, some never used it. When I went to BBB and sat in one glider, I fell in LOVE and thought it would be worth it. It was the one big splurge purchase! I ordered it late, I was around 30 weeks and it takes 8-11 weeks to make so it'll be here around baby or after baby. But, I felt good about the purchase and don't have any regrets about spending the $.

Hubs wants to just use his grandfather's old recliner/rocker that we have in our guest bedroom at the moment. It doesn't get used in there at all, and yes, it would be a significant savings. But it's not that comfortable and it's very wide, so I feel like it would be difficult for me to find a comfortable nursing position - I would be leaning way to one to side or the other, even with a boppy. Plus, it's a rocker, but it doesn't rock easily. The gliders I sat in at BRB are much smoother. I know he wants to try to save money, but I feel like this is way too important of a thing to cut corners on. I will probably keep pushing for a glider.

I love having a glider. I feel like I got into a much better position there while nursing, too.

yes. I didnt before liv was born, but while I was in the hospital after my section I saw exactly why I needed one. I ordered a cheapie one quick off of Amazon and LOVED it. It broke not too long ago, so I ordered a Rocker frm PB Kids and love that too. Liv also has a queen bed in her room, so I use both, but far prefer the rocker

We had a glider and used it from day one. When LO was sleeping in our room, the glider was also in our room. I never learned how to BF comfortably while sitting in bed.

yes, we special ordered one at BBB. we were going to try to buy one at babies r us with a coupon, but I wanted to at least drive out to buy buy baby to double check before we made the plunge..and same as @lydg, when we tried it out, we fell in love. they told us 12-14 weeks to get it in - which means the date the chair is due is September 24, and my due date is September 25! I really wish we'd gotten up there sooner..and I hope it comes in a little early!! We live an hour away from the store!

LO crib is also in our bedroom. We ended up getting a power rocker recliner and it has been a lifesaver. I found it much easier to nurse/pump on the recliner, plus in the first couple weeks postpartum I found getting on and off our bed pretty painful. In addition when we have to get LO back to sleep in the middle of the night my husband can just rock her to sleep while I sleep.

We have a glider and we are happy we bought it. I wouldn't say it is an absolute must though. It depends on the person. We would've been fine without one, but it's nice to have.

we got a glider/rocker. My aunt and 2 cousins purchased it for us. I was on the fence about it in the beginning but we still use it a lot even though she is almost a year.

we are also in a one bedroom apartment and Lo's crib is in our bedroom. we do have a glider with ottoman. at first I thought I wouldnt get one but when she was about 3 weeks we went out and bought once because I just need a comfortable place to sit and nurse her and the glider made it easy to rock her to sleep

I have one but I prefer nursing in bed. I do use it when I read to LO at night!

i can't speak from personal experience, but my friend didn't buy one and didn't regret it. she used the bed or the living room sofa.

It was the one big baby investment we made that I'm SO thrilled we did.
Here are the reasons why it is a must for us:
1) It made breastfeeding so much easier especially in the early days. We couldn't nurse on our bed until he was a month old, and I was too sore/in pain to do so anyway.
2) While I was pregnant I had sciatica very badly, to the point where our couches at home hurt me so much I couldn't walk. For the last 2 months I had the rocker in our livingroom and it was the only place I could sit that was comfortable.
3) The rocker we bought it big and spacious, I loved that me and my son will fit on it even as he grows a little older and will allow for special times like storytime or watching a movie together.
4) It's nice for night feedings because if I nurse him in bed I have a tendency to fall asleep, and he ends up sleeping with us - and when that happens neither of us sleep very well.

Oh, BTW we don't actually have the rocker in our sons room, it's in the living room since we spend most of our time there.

I got a small rocker from Ikea, which was fine for when he was really small, but I wish we had space for a glider. I spent a lot of time in the gliders at Babies R Us, lol.. DS is 7 months and I still wish I had a glider to nurse him in.

@Coco Bee: yes about the pain sitting after giving birth! I imagined myself sitting cross-legged nursing like the model on the Boppy packaging but that wasn't possible for waaay longer than I imagined.

We bought a Stressless recliner and ottoman for the nursery. My husband has been drooling over this chair for ages, and when he found one on clearance, he totally couldn't live without it. It was still spendy, even on sale, so he convinced me it would be the perfect chair for the nursery. It doesn't rock, but it's really comfortable. I have no idea how it will work for BF, but if it's an abysmal failure, we have a few other places to put it.

We aren’t buying anything new. We have a recliner/rocker in our living room already and we’ll have just a plain rocking chair in LO’s room that I’ve had for forever.

i didn't buy one but i was given a hand me down from my sister and we love it! DH uses it still when he bottle feeds LO.

I didn't but I wish I had. The couch is fine, but I don't have enough back support, plus I rock instinctively. We might get one when we move in September and LO is in her own room.

LO isn't here yet to test it out, but I'm really excited about the one we purchased. It's part of the Best Home Furnishings Storytime series - recliner/glider combo. We got a good deal on it since it was a floor sample and I think a discontinued fabric.

I sat in this chair and a glider to compare. For me, the fact that it swivels was a major selling point. Plus, I think it will be a comfy place to read as LO gets older.

We did and I love it. I wish the ones that looked nicer weren't so expensive. I would love for it to be a piece that I would actually keep forever because I have so many memories in my glider with LO.

We are also in a one bedroom but I still want to buy a glider to put in the living room. I just don't know which one to get. Pretty sure we should get on that based on the fact that it sounds like it'll take some time to come in!
