I didn't know anything about charting before I started TTC. I came across a blog post that talked about Taking Charge of Your Fertility after I had been TTC for a few months. Because of IF I don't need to chart anymore, but I thought collecting the data each month was interesting. I think it would have been helpful to know about charting before TTC.

I haven't been on hormonal BC for years, so I charted so I would know approximately when to expect AF.

We will be TTC in the new year, and I'm not planning to chart (other than tracking my periods each month). I have a bit of an obsessive personality, and I think charting might make me go off the deep end too quickly

I did. It was part of our marriage prep. Even though we weren't ready to TTC right away, it was helpful to know what was going on and helped diagnose my pcos
I'm also somewhat obsessive, but the science behind the numbers keeps me from peeing on way too many sticks!

I learned about charting thanks to HB in Nov '11 and charted from then until we started TTC in April '12. I foolishly thought that since my charts showed I was ovulating I would get pregnant right away.

Yep, for over a year. At first it was just for the data and to understand my body better, but it became helpful to shorten the window of when we needed condoms too.

I started charting wen I went off bcp several months before ttc. It helped me figure out my cycles and when to expect my period, assured me that I did start ovulating after the pill, and we used it to avoid pregnancy (stopped using condoms after o). Then I continued when we ttc.
@MaryM: same here in that I'm kind of obsessive but it helped me pee on fewer sticks at least. I think doing opks would have made me too obsessive though.

No, we didn't want it to become a stressful process. I am an anxious person and feel like I'd just worry and obsess over it.

Yep. I had been on BCP for 10+ years so I went off to see what my body would do. I charted to avoid for about 9 months and so thankful I was because I had extremely long and irregular cycles. I know that if I hadn't been charting, I wouldn't have known what was going on and wouldn't have gotten pregnant with my daughter. I think next time I might be more lackadaisical but we'll see. Knowledge is power for me.
