DH and I still have a few months before we start TTC. Instead of focusing on how much I want a baby NOW, I figured I'd try to enjoy the things I can do now that I won't be able to do after baby. So, what do you miss most about your life pre-baby??

Just picking up and going anywhere. Dinner, a movie, a concert. My dad had extra tickets to see Neil Young tonight in a luxury box at the concert venue, and I couldn't find a sitter so instead I'm at home folding laundry.

SLEEEP!!!!! lol His sleep is so unpredictable, although it's loads better than it was a month or two ago.
Also, like what prettylizy said, just being able to go somewhere... like right now I'm home and DH is out. I would love to go pick up something for dinner or run some errands but I can't because of the baby... even though he is fast asleep!

still pregnant with our first, but i already know the two things i will miss most is the flexibility/freedom and traveling!

@Coco Bee: I'm actually really nervous about the sleep-deprivation aspect of parenting. I am not a nice person when I haven't gotten enough sleep!

@lawbee11: Well if you get a baby like mine you only have to suffer for about 6 months. He has been pretty good and around 6 months things got significantly better, now he sleeps through the night 1-2x a night. Even though you get very tired - you see your baby and it is so worth it!

YES to what @prettylizy said! It's not like I want to go out and rage every night, but I miss just deciding to do something and then doing it! Drinks after work with friends, Sunday brunch, surprise road trips...

i agree with all these things, sleep being number 1. and 2nd would be freedom to go anywhere do anything you want without having to worry about a baby.

Relaxing. And going to the bathroom without a whiny baby climbing up my legs.

baby is still cooking, but i already miss my pre-pregnancy sleep. i used to be able to sleep anywhere, anytime, in any position... that has definitely changed. i miss sleep an unreasonable amount already. i have become a huge cranky pants.

@stargal: I am totally in denial about the fact that my flat tummy that I've worked really hard on will most likely be gone forever after baby!

free time. i have no free time whatsoever between work, the kids, cooking, cleaning, and general household stuff. i really need to make some me time, but i'm at the way way bottom of the list!

I miss being able to make spontaneous plans! We decided to do a baby moon in NYC about 3 weeks before we actually went (I guess that's not super spontaneous, but we did have to buy plane tickets!). And after work, we used to just decide on the spot whether we were going home, going out or meeting friends for dinner.

Sleep. And time to be just with DH alone. LO is 2 months now - and I always knew that there would be 3 of us in the house once he got here, I just never realized I wouldn't get the time to sit down with DH and have dinner, or enjoy one of our favorite shows, or just cuddle on the couch. I miss 'us' time.

I know you haven't thought about this one yet - sleep.
And going to the movies. We've been to the theater exactly once since DD was born 28 months ago.

Going to a restaurant and both people eating hot food at the same time with both hands!

Sleep.
And the luxury of running to the supermarket really quick. Leaving the house now is such an ordeal.

For the first 10 months it was most definitely sleep. Now it's going out for a late dinner or drinks without worrying about finding a babysitter/ or eating in an empty restaurant because it's so early/ or eating really fast because we need to get home to put baby to sleep. I just declined like 3 invites for this week and it's super frustrating.

just the ability to get up and go when someone calls and wants to hang out....we don't get many calls to hang out anymore :o(

What others have said plus having time to do what I need to do around the house. I love to bake but I can't do it unless someone is around to watch DD (and I can't do it while she's sleeping because she's such a light sleeper)...
Oh! And being able to lounge around and do nothing if you have a hangover!

I would have liked to try to get my wardrobe in order. Clean out a lot of stuff and shop for some classic pieces that I know I would love even after baby.
Also, get organized around the house. Get a good budget set up and bills on auto pay, etc.

Oh god. Not filtering my needs through hers. Getting to rest when I need to. Sleeping as much as I need. Not having hemorrhoids.
Totally worth it, even the hemorrhoids. But man, do I miss getting a break when I need one.
