I think I had 1 drink before I was 21. I'm not a big drinker though. I'll have a drink once a year maybe.

Yes. I used to live and work in the French Quarter and a lot of bartenders knew me and turned a blind eye. I drank A LOT. I moved to PA when I was 20 and was a borderline alcoholic.

Well in Quebec (where I grew up) the drinking age is 18, and I started drinking a little after I turned 18.
I think 21 is a silly age to suddenly allow drinking! 18 seems like a perfectly fine age to me (Hey at 18 you become an adult, and that should count for everything!)

Yes, I was allowed a glass of wine at special occasion family dinners. I've grown up having small amounts of beer too. I had fewer wild drinking nights than most because alcohol was never a novelty to me. I have always preferred microbrews to the cheap stuff. And wasn't able to afford the good stuff until after 21.

I maybe had a drink or two before I turned 21. I rarely drink but have a bottle of Kirin Ichiban in front of me

Not even a sip. I'm not a big drinker now (maybe 1 a year, if that) but it was really important to me to be able to say I didn't drink until I was 21. I never had a desire or was tempted. My parents drank but I never, ever saw them drunk and knew they high standards they had set for me. I didn't necessarily feel like I was better than anyone who drank but I did feel like it made me different in a good way.

Not at all, I was such a good girl! Actually I did have some drinks in Europe at age 20, but that was legal.

Yes, but a lot was in home with my parents. Wine and such when I was an older teen. I enjoy a drink here and there, but never partied much because I'm cheap and booze is expensive.

Yes, at home with my parents. I think Remy was my first sip and I actually liked it!

Yes, but the legal age here is 19. And across the river its 18. ;).
(But yes, I drank before it was legal. I moved out at 17:p)

@bebefly: so cool that you're in Ottawa! Maybe once LO gets here we can have a mini meetup!
Legal age is 19 here, I had a couple of drinks at 18, but not many. I was a major goody two shoes.

@pui: we just moved to Gatineau actually for the cheap rent/hydro & daycare, but we still work/shop etc in Ottawa.

Yep. I had an encounter with a cop while I was drinking and underage. Luckily he just wanted to flirt and I didn't get into any trouble.

Yup! A little too much. Haven't had a legal drink because I have been sober since my 21st bday

In NZ the legal age for drinking is 18, however the first full drink I remember having (not a sip of a parent's or whatevs) was at 12 and first got drunk at fourteen off Glenfiddich whisky and raspberry soda o_0
I agree with some of the others that I drank far more before it was legal than I did after!

My mom would let me have the tiniest sip of wine whenever we had spaghetti. Other than that, nothing until my 21st..

Yep, not too often but there were a few drunken camping trips and parties.

Umm, yes. I feel like I may have drank more before turning 21 than after due to living in a small town with lots of keg parties and working in bars starting at age 19. I was a bartender when I was 20, pretty sure that wasn't legal.
