I just did!! It wasn't too bad, though, and she responded normally so......I guess I escaped that one, whew!

MMM i think a while back i cc'ed the wrong "steve" or "mary"... nothing big- just boring work email~
I just got an email yesterday requesting work that wasn't for me; figured out who it was for though

Yup. There is a guy in our London office who has the same name as a guy in our office. They get each others emails alllll the time. I've only made the mistake once, but lots of people in our office are repeat offenders : )

I have at work because when I start typing a person's name in Outlook it autofills the recipient for me.

@autumnlove: many many many? oh oh! how about texts?
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
I have, but not often. Like Mamamoose, we have two people we work with the same first and last name, so it happens with them a lot, although I do try to be very careful.
More annoying is there is someone else with my same first and last name, but a different spelling of the first name, and apparently we have almost the exact same gmail account (1 letter different). I have gotten SO many emails for her. At first I used to reply and let the sender know, but now I just delete. Unless it's juicy, then i read them

Very rarely (maybe 1 time, that I can remember). I work in a law office and everything is super confidential, so I make sure to quadruple check every e-mail before it goes out.

@Foodnerd81: I have the same situation. There is a woman who has the same first and last name as me and my gmail account has a period between the two names and hers doesn't. One of her kids emails me all the time. I'm not your mom!!!

I've done it once or twice. Luckily without anything bad happening.

I've done it a few times at work (multiple Mikes) and thankfully it was never a big deal, but my husband accidentally responded to an email that a client was copied on and said something negative about that person (in relation to her doing something incorrectly), thankfully, he didn't get in trouble for it!

once or twice, but I always double check now! I have caem close to emailing my coworker a couple times who has the same first name as DH, nothing too embarrassing but enough that I have recently warned him if he ever gets anything questionable that is why! haha he's a nice guy so he just laughed and said I think you asked me to go to the store to pick something up one time after work, and I was like huh and ignored your email. So that's always good...

@Andrea: that too! I can't be trusted with technology! Sometimes my coworker will send emails that are long and pointless so usually forward them to another coworker with my sarcastic comments. Recently I thought I hit fwd but I actually replied to annoying coworker. Luckily, all I wrote was............? and nothing worse! I followed up later with an oh my gosh, I meant to ask you a few things, etc! Lol!

oh god yes. And I work with banks and hedge-funds, so their privacy is VERY important. Every time I do it (only like 3 or 4) I get hot and flustered and I freak out.
The worst though was when DH was resigning from his job and emailed his resignation letter to his boss after verbally telling him. He BCCd me. I hit "reply all" so his boss knew I was BCCd. I was MORTIFIED. Thank GOD I didnt say anything bad. Sweet lord. I still get embarrassed over that

@autumnlove: Oh yes, with the forward I am always so paranoid about that so I usually don't write anything and just hit forward. Then when the person replies I KNOW that I sent it to the right person and only then will say whatever I need to say!

Yes, but it's not been anything bad.
But funny story, only semi related: About 8 years ago, at my first job, I was sort of dating a coworker in another office. I frequently emailed back and forth with a female coworker who was a friend of mine, who worked in that same office. Well, after we had a lengthy chain of emails going about this guy I was sort of dating, she somehow sent our entire conversation to the ENTIREEEE company. And then -- THEN! -- when she realized what she'd done, she sent a message to everybody saying, "Please ignore that email." You know, just in case they didn't see if the first time. *facepalm*

I haven't - but someone keeps emailing me! a few someones, actually! my email is myfirst.maiden@gmail and someone with the same spelling and name, firstmaiden@yahoo keeps forwarding her own emails to me somehow and other people email her on my name. it's so annoying. i tried to correct it for awhile with her but I gave up and now just delete.
i also got emails forever from someone in the army!! someone with my name gave my email address, and i got emails from the army about what to bring to boot camp, etc (?!) and from the girl's family!! it was so sad. I felt horrible.

I don't think so. I've texted the wrong person before though.. haha

@chopsuey119: I text the wrong people all the time! On my iphone, my husband's texts are normally the ones that are up and a few times I haven't checked and sent messages meant for my husband (nothing bad) to the wrong person. Thankfully most of the other people I text are family or good friends, so they wouldn't care anyway.

never email, but i did mistakenly text my mom one time and ask her to "pick up some lube for sexy time." obviously that text was meant for the hubs. oops.

Yes, but it's never been anything bad. Since my work blocks my personal email account, I use my work email for personal use (bad I know) and I was walking & blackberrying at the same time and replied to a client instead of my Mom. I said something like "See you this weekend" so it wasn't bad at all, but I definitely got a shock when I realized it.

@photojane: HAHAHA! That's hilarious and cute!
I've texted the wrong person before but nothing harmful. My best friend worked in HR for a while and accidentally texted this one employer's yearly salary to the whole company! She got fired.

I have at work, but never sent anything embarrassing.
Before freshman year I sent my soon-to-be roommate this really long, heart rending email about school and stuff, and sent it to the wrong person. At the time I was so embarrassed but in retrospect we were NOT a good fit (switched roomies by oct 1!) so I'm glad she never got it. Still makes me chip uncle though.
I've gotten emails for someone else with the same initial and last name at my personal email account.
Also, one of my college profs was my aunts sister who announced to the class one day that she almost sent me my cousin's birthday ecard instead of my cousin, bc we had the same address at 2 Different IPs.
