My mom worked when I was growing up and I work too. Have no idea if it swayed my decision or not.

Yes and no. While we were young, she stayed at home and went back to work/get her AA degree when we were in school. There were periods where she stayed at home with us because it was financially better (she would have been working to pay for daycare). Once we were old enough to stay home by ourselves, she worked full-time. So far, I'm working full-time, but I'm not opposed to taking time off if it's better for our family.

My mom started working in the school when I was 10 or so and had been staying home for 10-11 years. My mom never had a real career, though, or a degree, and I do. So it's apples and oranges.
Our lives are also SO DIFFERENT. My dad owned his own business (zero flexibility,. worked lots of hours) and DH is home by 3pm every afternoon.

My mom stayed home (although she did bookkeeping / bill paying for my parents' business in the evenings) and I plan to stay home as well.

Haha no. My mother and I could not have been more different in that respect. Let's just say at my age, my mother had a 16 year old, a 10 year old and an 8 year old. I have a 4 year old, lol.

My mom stayed home until I was in around 5th grade, and then she went back to work part time - she wanted to be home when we got home from school.
I work full-time. I liked that my mom was home, but it's not financially feasible for us for me not to work. And i'm happier working. When LO gets a little older I may feel differently, but she's so happy at daycare right now, this is the right decision for our family.

Yes. My mom worked full-time and I think it had a pretty big impact on my work status/goals. I don't worry about me working FT or LO going to daycare FT having an adverse effect on her because I have the utmost respect for my mom balancing all that she did.

My mom stayed at home when we were young (6 and younger), then worked, but never finished college. I did plus a whole mess of school after that. At one point, I worked a high school summer job where I was getting paid more than she was! (Which she was able to levy into a raise.) So, kinda like @blackbird: apples and oranges...

My mom worked. She worked 2 jobs at one point (single mom, no child support).
I work. Though I don't plan to work as much as Mom!

Sort of. My mom worked, but she and my dad owned a business and they were worked crazy long hours. I work too, but i'm able to spend way more time with DD.
My mom's bugging me to be a SAHM though.

No. My mom WOH full time until I was 12, then, due to health issues, she stopped working until I was out of high school. For me, I've been SAH/WAH since I have had my two LOs. But our lifestyles are completely different.

My mum worked, and I did too. I think it definitely had and impact in that growing up I never knew any SAHMs and thus didn't even factor that into my thinking.

My mom SAH & so do I. Her mom did as well. I wonder often if this affected my decision in anyway & I am looking forward to seeing what my daughters choose one day (should the circumstances provide that they have that option.)

My mom worked 2 jobs because she was a single parent. I work because I would die of boredom if I weren't. I would have to be volunteering full time or something. We both now own our own businesses though which I knew I wanted to do when I helped her set up her business.

Sort of. I guess when I'm her age I'll have a better idea of how it all turns out for me. 
She usually took a year or two off when she had a kid, but then always went back to work. I just took my standard Mat leave with my first before going back, but I'm not opposed to staying home in the future.
DH's mom was a SAHM and he's actualy fairly against me being a SAHM. I don't think he minds as much if I take just 1 school year off, but if I said I wanted to be a career SAHM, he would be vehemently against it. Not really sure why...

No, but our circumstances are very different. She was a Military wife, which makes it more difficult to hold a steady job.
She did end up going back to work once the youngest was in school and my dad was out of the military, so I'm partially used to a working mom.

Yes. My mom stayed at home with her kids and I'm home with mine. DH's mom also stayed at home with him. We found it to be a very positive experience for us as young children and have wonderful memories from it so it definitely impacted our decision to have me SAH.

Yes, my mom was a WOHM and worked hard, I think I have followed in those footsteps. Although I have taken her advice in "work isn't everything, don't miss out on the important stuff."

Yes. My mom WOHM with an incredible amount of career success. I'm WOHM with a small amount of career success.
I'm so proud of everything my mom has been able to do while having three kids. I hope my daughters look up to me the way we look up to my mom.

My mom was a SAHM for a few months and HATED it! She got a job as soon as she could, my dad wanted her to SAHM. I started out as WOHM but quit for family reasons.

Yes, my mom was a WAHM/WOHM and I am the same in that regard. However, my mom is a workaholic and put work above all else (even though she didn't have to). It definitely made me not want to make work the #1 priority in my life. I leave work at work, and my family is more important to me than anything else. Work is simply a means to an end for me. I do it to provide my family the quality of life we want, but it's definitely not my identity the way it is for my mom.

Not really. She was a special ed teacher before she had me and a SAHM when my brother and I were young. When I was 8, she went back to school to get her masters then her PHD.
I have a bachelors and I've been working full time ever since college. I got married much later than her and I'm currently in the position of being the family breadwinner with DH on disability.
I'll need to keep working full time after this baby is born, but for now I'm lucky enough to work from home. I hope that DH can help raise our kids when they are young and eventually return to work.

Nope. Economy was different then. They bought their house for $150k in 1989 and it goes for $475k today. Mom was able to stay home when she wanted and work part time when she wanted. They lived on Dad's salary. She was also a teacher and I wanted nothing to do with teaching. My husband and I both work FT to keep up with bills.

Yes. I never really considered SAH because I didn't grow up seeing that, instead I grew up with a mom who led professional organizations and gave speeches at large events. My dad also supported her career 100%. He actually did more of the cooking and cleaning, even though he worked longer hours than she did!
