After giving birth, did you get a push present? I did not because I said I did not want one, and that was the truth. I was just so excited to have my LO. DH got to take a week off from work to be with us (unpaid), so that was my gift

Kind of I guess...DH did get me a necklace with LO's initial on it, but it was a few weeks after LO was born and was something he wanted to get me, whether or not I wanted it lol (which I did!).

DH says he plans on getting me a piece of jewelry. Says it's the least he can do, lol. I only asked that it have her birthstone incorporated. I'm a sucker for jewelry with special meaning and we don't generally give gifts. Push present is such a tacky name though. But people give gifts for all sorts of special occasions in life, like weddings, and who am I to turn down a present?

Nope, our bank account was going to be taking a hit with me on unpaid maternity leave, so we agreed to do a belated one when we feel we can afford things. But I have given my hubby a list of great ideas for when he's ready

Yup! I wanted something for going through barfing almost every day for nearly 9 whole months and months of pain and luckily my husband totally agreed LOL
ETA: his female best friend told him he had "better" get me one; which helped too. Love her!

I would have loved to, but DH is clueless about this stuff. If I ever have a #3 I am going to educate him and demand one, haha.

I didn't for my first three boys but a month before my daughter was born my husband gave me a necklace from my favorite jewelry store. He was the one who told me it was a push present. I hadn't even heard of it before.

Yup! It was a pleasant surprise. DH got me a David Yurman ring with DD's birthstone. He was educated by one of his female co-residents, so part of the credit goes to her.

Funny story...my DH said he considered getting me a treadmill as a push present, but thought I would get the wrong idea. I would have loved one (I'm a runner), but I could totally see how he would think that I would get mad at that. I knew he wouldn't have meant it in the way it seemed!

@2PeasinaPod: Haha-- yes that could DEFINITELY be taken the wrong way! I'm just picturing him explaining it to female coworkers.
I doubt I will, but I did tell DH some things I would like if he felt so inclined, at some point. Like a locket or birthstone jewelry. It wouldn't be at the birth though, I don't think.

@2PeasinaPod: Aww! Well that was kind of him to think ahead for your feelings!

No, but I have my eye on a necklace with DS's birthstone for my birthday/Mother's Day.

When I was first introduced to push presents, I shared it with the hubby. I'm newly preggo, but haven't brought the topic back up. I think it'd be nice to get something as momento to the birth of our child, but I'll leave it up to the hubby to decide if he wants to get one or not.

Kinda! I got my iPhone as a birthday/push/anniversary present. I ordered it and told him that was his present to me
grapefruit / 4235 posts
Yes, but I don't feel bad about it because he's bought himself the following items for no reason:
1. dirtbike (1 for himself - he's since sold it)
2. dirtbike for our unborn child
3. a boat. (it was a really good deal)
4. a handgun
5. a shotgun
And he wants to get an ATV with his annual bonus. So I ddn't feel bad about getting one. It was a combo Christmas/early push present - I'm due Jan. 25.

I'm not really into push presents, I think its the same "push present" that turns me off.

@2PeasinaPod: haha oh yes, I could see how that could be taken the wrong way!

@Penny Lane: My SIL ordered her own push present and told my brother what he got her. It's pretty much what they always do for gifts now.

@Foodnerd81: it works! Hubs is terrible at presents. Even he says so. I didn't even get a christmas present this year I'm planning on going shopping for a new bra or something and letting him know it's my late present!

Yes it was so sweet. He gave me a gold necklace with our daughters first inital. I wear it everyday

I am totally not expecting one. We are buying a house 6 weeks before due date so pretty sure after that and then 6 weeks of me not having a pay check we can't afford anything.
eggplant / 11716 posts
I've told hubs I want a bigger place for my "push present". Of course, I want it before the baby gets here! lol.
Since 2 bedrooms are so very expensive here, we'll see!!! (am hoping he gets a good yearly bonus soon, so we aren't so worried about spending the money)

DH was home on R&R for my due date/birth. He got a 10 days extension. It was the best "push present" I could have asked for!
nectarine / 2504 posts
No push present but it was probably for the best because we purchased our first home shortly after. Some of your push presents sound amazing!

I ended up getting a push/Christmas present - a ring with my LO's birthstone. My LO was born on 12/4 and we'd agreed to just exchange small ($20) Christmas presents, since we'd just spent money on a new house, baby stuff, ect. My husband didn't have any gift ideas for me, so I told him maybe something inexpensive with the baby's birthstone (like earrings with a mock stone)... he ended up giving me a more expensive ring w/ white gold/real stones.
I feel sort of bad that he went over budget... and it's not my most favorite style... but I do really like it because he picked it out himself and because it has J's birthstone!

I got a 55 inch tv for my push present. Oddly enough t was perfect for all the endless nursing sessions in the early days.
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
I did not get one... He bought me insanely expensive David Yurman earrings in her birthstone for my birthday, so I did not push the issue...And we just signed a contract to build our dream house, and when we move this summer to Charleston SC, I will not be working anymore!!!!! So combined with her, those are my presents!!!

I never brought it up to my husband and I don't know if he knows about them or not lol
If he surprises me with something I'll be happy but I'll just be happy to have my baby girl I feel awkward mentioning it lol

I got an iPad as a push present about a month into maternity leave because it was too finicky to use my laptop during feedings.

@cascadecherub: long shot here...Are you carrieknitssomething from WB? Her avatar was the same...

yup! but more to signify the significance of the event, not as a "push" present per se. got 2 charms for my charm bracelets - hearts with first letter of my kids with the birthstone.
