Seems like we have a lot of lawyers on the boards!! (and lawyers married to lawyers!!) I always say that I will NEVER go back to school EVER, but I've always wondered what could have been if I considered law school. The reason I never considered it was because I hated history, and I figured studying law would be a lot like studying history.

I'm a paralegal, so law school is always brought up in conversation with me. I always say, I'd go if someone else would pay for it. But I'm not taking out 6 figures of student loans to attend. Ever. Especially considering how many unemployed lawyers I know.

I always wanted to explore law school but was always afraid I would fail due to all the memorization. Now I can't imagine adding more student loans to my already large amount from my private college education for my BA!

Mrs.Wagon - law school is a lot of history!
I went to law school but didn't finish due to some personal/family reasons and because I was offered the job I have now where my salary is more than the associates typical salary in our city. I might finish one day, I loved the academics of law school.

i went to law school (am a lawyer now), and LOVED it - its a lot of legal theory, and a ton of history about the background of laws, in your first year
after that, it gets a bit more practical, more trial/advocacy prep and things like that

I didn't go, but I know quite a few people that wish they didn't. I only a handful of people that are enjoying it so far, but are fresh out of school or are currently in school doing internships, etc.

Having worked at a law school, I will say that I would never, never go unless I had a true burning desire. (Which I don't. At all.) Saw too many miserable students who did it because they thought it would be a ticket to a good job (not in this day and age) or thought they'd be good at it, even if they might not enjoy it. Big (and expensive) mistake.

DH and I both did. Some of my jobs as a lawyer I've hated and some I've loved. We both had full scholarships, but we still have a lot of debt from our living expenses for three years, especially since we weren't dating or married during school and therefore have two sets of living expenses rolled into our loans. I don't regret it because I did well, and it has opened a lot of doors for me. But, tons of my classmates really regret it.

@Mrs. Yoyo: i could not agree more - there were so many people in my classes that had no interest at all in law, but thought it was just a "way to make money" - and the economy caught up, so now they have a degree that they hated getting in an economy where the big $ jobs are scarce

I went to law school, practiced for about 4 years, and now work at a law school (in career services).
I actually really enjoyed law school - it is definitely a lot of history though! But I hated being a lawyer, unfortunately. =)
I definitely don't regret going - I don't think you should ever regret education, and it definitely opened doors like my current job that I'm not sure I would have found otherwise. But, the student loans are PAINFUL, for sure (especially now that I'm not making an attorney salary)!

I never went but I did take my LSAT and I got accepted into 2 schools! But honestly, it was something I only half wanted to do. I don't regret it. I think lawyers are awesome but I couldn't commit to the full time nature of the job. I'm too....flakey.

I didn't--that was never a path I'd even consider. One of my good friends spent a semester in law school and decided that she wanted to enjoy her life instead.

I did. Was in my 2nd year when I met Dh and got married. Took a leave of absence bc I had to move out of state.. Might go back one day.

I went to law school and met my now-husband there! So, yep, two attorneys. We're in totally different careers though.
I wouldn't say I regret going but, if I could do it all over again, I'm not sure I'd take the same path. I've had some really miserable jobs. Right now I'm at a job I love but still struggle with certain parts of the job and, as a result, work longer than necessary hours. We'd love to start a family but until I get things under control, can't.

My husband and I both did. The first year was really really tough for me, because it was just so different than college. But I don't regret it, and I love my job now. My husband doesn't regret it, but he definitely loves it less than I do!
That said, we graduated in 2005 and it is a totally different story to go now, unless you get into a top 10 school with lots of scholarship. It's scary to hear about all the unemployed Harvard Law grads.

Yes I went and practiced for almost 8 years...everyone told me it would get better and I would start to enjoy it...never happened. Now I am taking a break and being a SAHM for a few years.
Honestly I don't think law school is worth the time and money unless you want to be a lawyer...it's 3 long years of reading a lot of dense material (my contacts prescription doubled while I was in law school)...and i'm sure this happens in a lot of grad school programs but lots of classmates got divorced during law school.
I'm not sure I would go to law school if I had a chance to do everything over.

I enjoyed law school and am glad I went (plus I met my husband and some amazing friends there), but I'm not positive I'd do it over again. Unless you have an absolute passion for wanting to be a lawyer I would never recommend going to law school. It's a ton of debt and the job market sucks. Plus, when I went in everyone told me you can do anything with a JD, and so far my husband and I haven't really found that to be the case.
