I never did, but it's more cultural. Charlie and Olive have had a celebration every year, even if it was just cake at home with family. I think birthday parties are fun (and stressful), and am planning one right now!

We always had a cake, but because my birthday fell right when we were most often out of town, the celebrating was normally just my little family.
My older daughter has opted not to have a friend party this year, saying she will do it next year instead. It totally surprised me when she said that...

Yes, but nothing crazy extravagant. Just a few friends and some cake at home or the bowling alley. Lots of great memories!

I only had a couple of parties but birthdays were a BIG deal. I'm planning on at least having a little party every year for my kid(s).
