This never happened to me, but my friend had a phantom pregnancy and waited for everything to pass naturally. I think she waited 3-4 months?
It was a long process for her, but she says she doesn't regret it.

One big advantage of a D&C is that they can do genetic testing easily, and let you know if there was a chromosomal anomaly.

Knowing that there was a trisomy issue took a huge load off of our collective shoulders...

Stink! I won't say what you don't want me to say... but I will send healing thoughts your way.

No personal experience, but a friend of mine m/c'd at a similar point and she had a ton of bleeding and a lot of pain.

we decided to go with a D&C, i wanted to start to "heal", and i knew the end result would be the same. and i couldnt bare the thought of starting to bleed somewhere outside of my home...and i knew i couldnt be home 24/7 until things passed...

my story is not typical but, i went in for my D&C at my Dr.'s office...and it failed...the baby was to high in my uterus and she didnt want to put my in added stress...she asked if i want to go to the ER for a medicated D&C, i heard ER and got scared...and said no...i was then prescribed more Misoprostol to take the next day so i do have a medically induced miscarriage at home...i was scared to take them the next day, but i did...and well it also failed, i am part of the 20% it doesnt work for...it wasnt until the next day that Dr. finally told me to come in and have a medicated D&C. i was out (asleep) during the procedure...and successful...it was the toughest three days of my life, and being mad at my body for putting me through the crap it did...

i dont mean to scare you...but i hadnt ever heard of a drawn out process...and thought i would share...

i took a week and a half off work, to collect my thoughts. to "accept" what had happened...take your time, do what you need, and i hope some sense of peace comes to your heart soon...they day after we found out the baby didnt have a heartbeat i spoke with my priest, and he put my mind at ease about my decesion...

i send you all the hugs in the world...and if you need someone to just listen too i am here...

I had a D&C at 10 weeks with the baby size at 6 wk 3 days. I did it because I wanted it to be over. I found out the week before it was "offical" and sorry to be graphic, but the idea of carrying around a dead baby for even longer made me sick. I don't regret it at all. It was a quick procedure and I was fine the next day. I could have waited but I wanted to move on.
We sent it away for testing, but something went wrong and they couldn't use the sample. Honestly that was worse than having the DC because I couldn't get anwsers.

Hi. I had an mc a few months ago. I started spotting around 10 weeks and had a natural miscarriage (with minor contractions that felt like heavy heavy period cramps) at 11 weeks. The serious discomfort lasted about 2 hours with quite a bit of flow and a bit of a "delivery" of materials. I am glad I went though this at home. I was able to handle it all and I can't imagine dealing with the emotion of it surrounded by strangers. Plus I had my then 15 month old so she kept me distracted.

I had a D&C with my chemical pregnancy. There were no signs of my body handling it by itself after 6 weeks. I don't regret it at all.

I had a natural miscarriage at home at the 8 and a half week mark I'd say. I had been spotting the whole time on and off and an early ultrasound dated me back a week, which should have been the first clue that something wasn't right...

I wouldn't change my experience at all, but my body was really set on doing it. No real advice I guess, just listen to your gut and what feels right for you? My thoughts are with you.

I won't feel sorry for you because I know how much I hated it. However, I do feel sad that so many women have to go through this.

Like most people on here, I had a d&c. I found out my baby stopped growing when I was 6 weeks (baby was 5weeks). I couldn't stand the idea of bleeding at work or anywhere else. I just wanted it to be over with and to move on. Plus, like MrsTiz the idea of carrying something inside of me that wasn't going to be a baby flipped me out. I had my d&c at 7weeks and started naturally mcing that morning. I was in so much pain but had the d&c anyways. I was put under and never had any cramping or bleeding after. I do not regret it at all. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I know this isn't what you want but I have to say my heart is breaking for you. I remember the feeling like it was yesterday and I'm sorry you have to go through it.

Hate that we rescheduled. I'd like to meet you and give you a hug. I've been there, and know how much it sucks. Mine was natural and happened on its own. In your case I would have the D&C because I would be anxious to move on.

I just want to tell you not to lose hope. I know for me the hardest part of the m/c was that I was freaking out thinking I would never be able to have a baby. As you know I now have a beautiful healthy baby girl and I know you will get your sticky baby too.

This thread makes me really sad. Just know whatever you choose is right.

I had a natural miscarriage. I found out in the same day that I was pregnant about 6 weeks, and going to miscarry apparently it had already started. I don't know if I could mentally go through a D&C, I wasn't given a choice really.
I was very crampy for about a week and a half, and lots and lots of clots and bleeding.

I'm not sorry for you but I'm sorry that you and any other mother have to go through this and make decisions like these.

I'm resisting any urge to feel sorry for you. My miscarriage was a natural one that didn't require a d&c. After the fact I did have a d&c, however and it honestly wasn't too bad. The only discomfort was some cramping afterwards. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Also, I wanted to add how truly sorry I am. It is never an easy thing to deal with. Know you have the support of everyone here.
