I got a cell phone when I was 16 but before that I didn't have my own phone of any kind.

Nope. None of my friends did either.... AIM came around halfway through HS and that worked just fine.

No way.... And I remember when I was on the phone and my parents got on to make a call.. So awkward! Or they will just start dialing not realizing I'm on the phone!

Yup! I was so excited when I got it, it was a pink radio/alarm clock/phone and I kept it until I graduated college.

Not until I got a cell phone my junior year of HS. It's strange to think back to when everyone didn't have cell phones!

I got a mobile phone when I was 14, not because I wanted one though (I hated talking on the phone, still do) but because I had horses and if I got thrown in the middle of nowhere at least I would have a way to call for help. My mum was a worrier
Of course I never had the heart to tell her that most of the time when we were in the middle of nowhere there was no phone signal

I had a phone in my room, but it was the line to my parent's restaurant one floor below us. I had to take calls and get off the phone every time a call came in.
I did get a cell phone when I was a junior in high school.

Haha, no. I didn't get my own cell phone until I was out of college and working.

NOPE. I had a cell phone at 16, but I was only allowed to use it for emergencies. I didn't get my own cell until my junior year of college!

I got a phone in my room sometime in high school, and had my own cell phone when I was 16 and started driving. My friends and I used MSN messenger to communicate more than anything, so the phone thing wasn't a huge deal.

I got my first simple flip phone when I was... 17, I think? I didn't want it (it was from my parents) and I hardly ever used it.

I got my own line for Christmas one year, I think I was 12? And then I got a cell phone when I was 14 and started to drive to school. It only had 30 minute a month and was for emergencies only but I thought I was cool!

I did. It was a sparkly blue princess phone. I barely used it. To this day i am not a phone chatter.

Nope! I shared a cell phone with my mom junior year of HS, and got my own cell phone senior year of HS because I attended a community college 95% of the time (I only went to HS to attend Senior English).

No, I wasn't allowed! But then I got smart... we had a 2nd fax line which was almost never used. And my room had a jack for the fax line, so I secretly bought a phone which I stowed under my bed and plugged in late at night when I wanted to make calls (usually to boys, haha). I unplugged it after each call and I never gave out that number.

I got my own line when I was 13 as a birthday present. My parents had a jack installed in my sister's room at the same time and planned to buy her a phone when she turned 13. However, she figured it out really quickly, bought a cheap phone and was always on my line! I was outraged
We did not have call waiting, needless to say.

my grandmother gave me my own phone for my birthday, i was maybe 8 or 9, it was black with a hot pink light around it. i got a cell phone when i was a freshman in high school.
I did get a cell phone when I was a junior in high school.
