we had the infant seat checked before we could leave the hospital. they had a tech there.

I haven't had her convertible seat checked, I followed the directions to the T and when holding at the seatbelt/latch path, it doesn't move more than an inch. I tried calling three local techs (at PDs) and no one ever got back to me. So, so annoying.

I did! We bought our convertible carseat at a local baby boutique and the owner is a CPST. He went through his checklist and taught us how to install the carseat correctly.

My hospital said they couldn't check it or comment on it by law. I was shocked after reading online that so many folks had them checked there.
I had our convertible seats checked. They didn't mention the seatbelt in combination with the LATCH makes me wonder how they are certified... but everything is corrected now.

Yup, my mom checks my nanny LOs seats in my car, she's a CPST.

@rachiecakes: That's crazy! The course is pretty extensive and to maintain your cert you have to complete a # of safety check events & Continuing Ed. Once my mom was away & I had a fireman who said he was a tech check a seat & I knew more about carseats than he did I guess not all techs are created equal.
