I was completely surprised when my DH popped the question! I had no input on what my ring was going to look like. He did a great job. I love my e ring and wedding band.
Did you help your SO ring shop?

I gave it to him when I got home from my parents house after Christmas. So, yeah.

Yes and know. An acquataince of ours was selling her engagement ring from her previous marriage without the stone in it. It was a good deal and I loved the setting so I knew he bought it from her. It still took him over a year to put a stone in it and propose though.

He asked my friends for help and they did a great job!
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
No. He was given a family heirloom pearl ring (as well as matching earrings and a necklace) by my surrogate mother (and our boss) to give to me. He said he thought I'd appreciate having something of hers that had some history to it. It's set high in a very delicate setting, though, and I'm terrified of damaging/losing it, so after we got married I stopped wearing it and just wear my band now.

Yes, we went together and found one we both liked. But after it was chosen, he waited 4 months to propose.

We looked at my "dream ring" and he apparently went back the next day to buy it because he wanted it to be that exact ring we looked at under the microscope. He didn't propose until 10 months later.

I got my e-ring a few months after we were married. Then an upgrade/setting change right before we had DD.
So I got to choose both!

Sort of...I strongly hinted a few months before at a design that I liked. He found a similar picture online and took it into the jeweler to have them make it.

Yup we went to look at them together and picked out a 6 prong solitaire together. He waited a few months to propose tho!

I gave him guidelines/heavy hints. I knew I wanted a round solitaire, but he got a much more interesting setting than I'd been thinking, which I love (pave diamonds along the front and sides of the band). We picked our the wedding rings together.

We looked one day. I pointed out things I liked and didn't like. Then, he went from there on his own when he wanted.

Nope. He completely surprised me and did a great job. He got input from our best friends.

Yes, about 2 months after we booked our wedding venue & only 4 months before the actual wedding, I drug him to the jewelry store & we picked out & ordered my ring together! So I never had a real proposal. The day after he picked it up, I was brushing my teeth before going out of town to see my girlfriends. He stuck the ring out & said he thought I would want to show it to the girls. Still with toothbrush in mouth, I started laughing & crying! Unique "proposal" but that's the "real" us!

I was going to let him do it because it was important to him, but I stumbled upon the Tacori website and fell IN LOVE with a ring, and I basically knew/told him I'd die without it, so then we went looking for it for me to try on, etc, etc, So I pretty much told him which one:).
I still love my ering more than any ring I've ever laid eyes on!

I picked it but I love it. I'm sure I would have loved what he picked (with my input) but this was easier.
I just found pictures of my ring on weddingbee.

I showed him pictures and styles that I liked so that he wasn't shopping completely clueless.

I didn't have a specific ring in mind, but I sent him pics of princess cut diamonds for years and so that's what he ended up getting

We went and looked together about 10 months before he proposed. I thought that I wanted a simple solitaire in a Tiffany setting, and that is what I liked the best. He then picked out the actual setting, got a 6 prong due to the diamond size, and picked out the diamond himself.
We went really early to look so then when the time came I would have no idea it was coming. I was totally surprised.

No, I didn't know he was even going to propose. I really wish he would have let me pick my ring though. Don't get me wrong, I like ny ring a lot..but would have preferred a different one
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
We ring shopped together just for him to get an idea of what I liked, which happened to be quite different from what he was envisioning. Then, I found the perfect ring mentioned it to DH and he researched it on his own and surprised me with it.
eggplant / 11824 posts
Nope; the engagement was a total surprise. I had never looked at rings online and we had never talked about getting married and definitely never talked about rings and what I liked; he just bought one he thought was sparkly and proposed. It wasn't one I totally loved, so I had it reset, which my husband was totally fine with.
pomegranate / 3580 posts
We went and looked about a year before he proposed, but I don't think he remembered much of what we looked at. Poor guy was a little overwhelmed I think I love my ring, but it isn't something I would have picked out for myself
GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts
Yes. He made me go ring shopping so he could make sure he got me exactly what I wanted. But I had no idea he had it made or when he would propose.
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
Yup. I told him exactly what I wanted. Then I got it reset. Then I got it reset again! Now I have literally EXACTLY what I want.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Nope and he did a fantastic job! I still find myself staring at it all the time.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
Nope he did it himself...he knows more about quality etc than I do!

I helped him pick, because we had to order online (because I wanted moissanite) and it would have been a super hassle to try and exchange it after it had shipped all the way over here! I didn't need to help him though, he actually suggested the one we ended up choosing!
apricot / 423 posts
nope. i never gave him any hints and he didn't consult any of my friends. but somehow, he picked out the ring i had envisioned in my head. except, it was even better! i've had it for two years now, and i can't imagine a more perfect ring for me.
bananas / 9628 posts
I had shown him a page online & told him of like any of the ones in that page. He picked the flashiest, least me one on there but it is a very pretty ring and I love that he picked out the one he thought was the prettiest.

DH actually enlisted the help of my sisters with what type of e-ring I'd like. Since they had no clue, he had to make a decision on his own. He did a wonderful job. I absolutely love my e-ring!

Yes, we went ring shopping together and i was in love with one, and picked out 2 more to give him "options". Luckily, he picked the one he knew i wanted most Was still a surprise!

We went ring shopping together and i chose the one I wanted...wouldn't have had it any other way!!
pomegranate / 3716 posts
Yes, we did some "casual" ring shopping about a year and a half after we started dating. What I didn't realize was that while we went shopping, he had already bought the diamond (I was always very clear that I wanted an emerald cut). So when we were at the store, he was mainly paying attention to what setting I liked. It took him another 3 - 4 months to propose, when we went in a trip to Paris.
pear / 1895 posts
I kind of told him what I liked, and he did the rest. He had it custom made, and it's perfect! I love it so much more than anything I had imagined. And I love that it's custom, so no one else has one just like it.
