I'm thinking about it...But not sure if it's just too much for LO.

We didn't hire anyone. DH has a really nice camera so we're just going to take pics using it.

No, we had my FIL take the pics with my SLR camera and they came out great! It is important to designate someone with that role, even if you don't hire someone, or else you might not get photos of the entire party.

I did this as a gift for a friend. The pictures turned out fanstastic and was totally worth it not to have to worry about someone taking pictures.

I would love to if I had the money, but we don't. You could also have a one year photoshoot and bring a cake for the cake smash. That way you still get cute pictures but it'll be less crazy with no guests around.

i did for charlie's but i know a lot of photogs from being in the wedding world.
i agree with andrea -- you'll be way too busy to take pics so you should def designate someone as photographer.

@Mrs. Bee: @Andrea: If I ask a friend/guest to be the designated photographer, do I pay them? Or just a little gift of thanks?

@Rubies: a gift for me. i think it would have been weird to give my FIL money?

@Rubies: i'd gladly do it for free for a friend! i'm sure a small token is appreciated, but i don't think it's necessary!

We have a really nice DSLR camera so we are going to use that a little bit for certain pictures we absolutely want.DH will take some pictures & then I am going to put other people in charge of snapping pictures on point & shoots for most of the party. We are doing a 1 year photo shoot & I think that will be enough for us.

Our friend is a semi-professional (he's the second shooter for an established wedding photographer) so we asked him to be the photographer. He's very focused so we didn't have to worry about him missing anything because he was socializing or eating. Seriously. Haha. We had to beg him to eat. I absolutely absolutely LOVE the pictures he captured, especially of the dol ja bi. We have him a gift certificate as a token of thanks.

I would love to, but having such a large party is already pricey enough. I'm going to use our SLR camera for family photos before the party starts and before I forget and will also take all my own detail shots of all the decor. After that I will probably have a relative take photos with my camera.

I did and it was honestly the best money I spent in relation to the party. My family was visiting from out of the country so it was really important to us to get a lot of family portraits since we're not all together very often. If we had a friend who takes really good pix we might have designated them, but comparing our friends and family's pix of the party fo the professional ones the professional ones look so much nicer.

I did too and it was totally worth the money. I think we paid her $300 for 4 hours and I would do it again in a heartbeat! She gave us all of the originals and I was able to make a really good photo book for the grandparents to keep.
