Our first LO we did not, we knew about 5 people due within a month of us, so I wanted to "stake claim" to my name (I know many do not agree with this tactic, but I did it ha.) This round, DH is adamant about keeping the name a surprise, and I'm on board. However, my friends are not! We do not know gender yet, but have 2 names picked out for each, which I have not shared. They keep pressuring me, not understanding why we shared with #1 but wont' with #2. I get nervous because they all know I'm Horrible with secrets, I don't' want to cave and disappoint DH! Did you share or were you able to keep it a secret?

I kept it a secret with #1, and will do so with #2 as well! People knew our "top 3" but not our 1st choice until LO was born.

Yep!! We told no one! It was driving everyone crazy to not know, but it was so much fun to hear their guesses.
It helps when you don't call the baby by the name. We called LO our nugget till we knew the gender, then called her Nuggs, even when we were alone, so we wouldn't slip and say her name in front of someone else.

We kept it a surprise in that we didn't know his name until after he was born. I don't think that we mentioned it to anyone when it was asked. With this pregnancy, we'll probably do the same.

We are keeping it a secret, mostly I am happy with this tactic but sometimes I want a bit of feedback. We haven't picked a name for sure yet but we aren't sharing the short list either.
I did share with the 7 year old I used to nanny for, I appreciate getting feedback on whether our "odd" choice would be too odd and she LOVES keeping the secret which is hilarious.

I mean one of our boy choices was the name we were going to use if LO #1 was a girl, so it wouldn't be surprising to people if we used that one, but right now we are leaning in a different direction. Still like it but another name is pulling ahead. Girl names we seriously don't agree so it's not a lie when I say I have no idea what it's going to be, we have a couple ideas but nothing set

We kept it a surprise from everyone and we were open with people about the reason why: we didn't want people to make us second-guess our decision! My sisters tried HARD to change our minds and get us to tell them. Instead I would periodically give them a vague clue ("It does not start with a vowel." or "There are no double-consonants."), and that ended up being a fun, on-going joke.

We kept ours a surprise. A good way of helping to keep it a surprise is telling your friends that you're not even close to picking out a name.

We didn't tell. I didn't care so much, but DH felt strongly about keeping it to ourselves. He was named in honor of two family members, and it was very sweet to be able to announce his name and birth to them at the same time.

I think the easiest way to keep it under wraps is to tell people you haven't decided yet- that way they don't constantly pressure you to tell! With DD1 we didn't tell until my shower (6 weeksish before EDD) and with DD2 we started telling a few people around the same time, but only if they specifically asked.

We did. It's a Jewish tradition to not announce the name until a ceremony. We waited until birth.

We were team green but we also kept the names a secret too. We didn't even tell top 5. I did spill to one of my opinionated girlfriends (stupidly) and she actually said she liked all of them except for the one we ended up choosing.

We kept it a secret because we really liked our name and didn't want to hear any opinions about it. I think we're just secretive people....we like keeping secrets and then surprising people. Heck, a ton of people didn't even know I was pregnant because I never posted anything about it on FB.

we kept it a surprise, but we only really landed on it for sure in the last month. even then, we never called her by the name. we only told two people beforehand that we were pretty sure that was going to be the name. i wanted to make sure she looked like the name before i gave it to her!

Yep! Only one person knows besides my husband and me, and she guessed out of the top 5 (and is a work colleague who will keep it to herself). We're keeping it secret for a few reasons...one, to make sure it suits the baby we have, two, because I had a friend with a loss at 38 weeks and don't want to name this baby until he's here safely and three, everyone knows the sex of the baby....it's fun to have the name be a surprise!

We kept it a secret until he was born. I just told everyone I wanted to see if the name fit him. I also didn't want feedback from 100+ students, coworkers, family, etc.

We shared with with out first. I didn't think it was a big deal since we were 100% on the name. Not sure if we will do the same when we have our second.

I told my dad and some HBers. But we aren't announcing til she's born! My cousins GF is pregnant and due a few months after us, if they have a girl and use out name I'll be pissed. But chances are slim.

Since we didn't know K's name until after she was born, it wasn't hard to keep it a secret
I tried keeping L's name a secret, but ended up giving in and telling people when they pressured me too much. Oops... -
We're telling everyone that they will first hear the name after the ink is dry on the birth certificate. I don't want to hear everyone's opinions. This way if they don't like the name, they can't say anything (at least not to our faces).
I really feel like this is the default approach, though? I've known one or two people who announced the name before the birth but I found that really unusual. I definitely expect people to keep it a secret.

We kept it a surprise. I had a few names ruined by people saying "oh I know a ----, she's terrible," etc.

We're keeping it a surprise by telling everyone we're awful with names. It's worked thus far. Every now and again when someone is persistent I just throw out names like Quinoa and Gazpacho just so they can stop asking.

I'm Terrible at this! So far I've kept our name fpr pur daughter mostly secret but I doubt ill last till the birth. With my son it was out in the open early what we were considering.

We didn't choose until discharge lol. Most knew what out top (and only we could agree on) choice was though.

We kept it a secret. It helped that we were team green and decided that we wouldn't make a final decision among our top contenders until we'd met the baby. He didn't have a name for about 8 hours.
I did share one of our more out-there names that DH had originally vetoed. When I got a really positive response, he mentioned it to a few friends, who also really liked it. The name went back on the list
(though it was a girl name so in the end it didn't really matter)

We revealed our top list, but not her "official" name until she was born. Not on purpose though, we just didnt decide until then.

We aren't close to deciding yet, but we're planning on keeping it a secret even if we do. I want to see our little girl first to make sure she fits whatever name we decide on.
We have a list of top choices, but I try to be vague when anyone asks. I just don't want someone else influencing our choice!

i kept it a secret, and I told DH to not say anything but he completely forgot and blurted it out to his parents at a family bbq. grrrrrr.
