I guess it depends on the hill . . . but helmets are usually a good idea!

I've gotten hurt sledding, and my mom had her arm sliced nearly to the bone in a sledding accident as a kid. I think both our injuries had to do with my grandpa making an ice slick with the water hose to sled on

i got hurt sledding when i was little too! my uncle took me to a rocky sledding area (?!?!) and i scraped my face very open on one side. I was about 2, my mom was horrified, but it all turned out fine in the end.

My cousin got a concussion from sledding/sliding when he came to visit us in our canadian winter! he was from a less-snow-and-ice state and didn't really know how to slide properly and protect his head. He was about 10 when it happened.

Yep! I broke my back sledding in college (sober). Burst fracture in one vertebrae, hairline fracture in another, cracked tailbone, torn ligaments down my spine. Most pain I've ever been in, hands down, and will affect me for the rest of my life DH is going to have to take LO sledding because just thinking about sleds/snow makes me nauseous.

My MIL's brother was injured very badly and was paralyzed from the neck down, he was 7 or 8 years old.

We have minimal snow and no hills here, so I don't know anyone who was injured sledding. I can see how it could be dangerous though!

I thought I kew what sledding was until I went to Switzerland, where it involves mountains with ski lifts and godolas. For that, I agree, kids should wear helmets.

I am supportive of helmets for riding bikes, so by extension, I support helmets for sledding.
