I'm worried a bout having a newborn and toddler in the early days and the house becoming a wreck! Realistically I know I won't be able to keep up with it but I like a clean house!!

I will definitely prioritize and delegate. I am most likely having another csection, and can't imagine trying to clean up after two kids following surgery!

I had a pretty bad recovery and literally couldn't do anything!! I made DH do it when he got home from work. It wasn't great and he didn't do any deep cleaning, but he kept counters clean and swiffered up the dog hair! Other than that.. it wasn't very clean but not super noticeable, lol.

My house hasn't been clean since my first pregnancy...and that was in 2012.

@ValentineMommy: agreed! I had my first in 2011 and I haven't kept up with cleaning since.

With #1 I did. With #2 it felt like things got back to "normal" fast because we had to keep up with our toddler's routine anyway! It never became a wreck!

Delegation! My home isn't a wreck but that's bc dh does most of it, plus my parents have been helping loads and we hired a cleaning service.

My DH and I are both super neat anyway, so - no - our house did not turn into a wreck. It was harder to keep up on deep cleaning, though, so I *highly* recommend hiring a cleaning service to come a few times even if you can't swing it on a regular basis.

Does 9 months count as "newborn"??
Yes, I let everything go when she was a newborn. Take out all the time, nothing got cleaned, things barely got picked up. I didn't have one of those sleepy newborns I heard about so the rare times when she did sleep, I rested too. And that was just with one!

I had my house organized for easy tidying, and it was as clean as it ever is after a newborn. I found it easier to do with a newborn than when I was pregnant because when I was pregnant I was really sick and also working. I am not a neat freak or anything, so I was surprised at how nicely it stayed.

It's been 9 months and I'm still letting it go. I used to spend hours each week deep cleaning and tackling multiple rooms at a time, but now I do smaller tasks more often and quickly. For example yesterday I cleaned my toilet and bathroom sink, but I didn't clean the entire bathroom. I try to pick up a little each day because I hate clutter, but if I have to choose between resting and taking me time while LO is sleeping or cleaning, me time always wins.

@Running Elley: same! Was worse with my first. We do live in a 3 BR house now vs. our 1 BR condo so that helps, but things just seemed to fall into place faster with LO2, even with a 20 mo old toddler running around!

No, not really. I haven't cleaned the bathrooms in a while but we've been keeping on top of things. I can't just sit around all day, so I like to stay on top of stuff.

I am def afraid of this too! I think DH will have to pick up a ton of slack for me, and maybe my standards will have to be lowered some what too!

Nope, it went slightly downhill for a short time but not drastically. This is one of those things that I think it depends on the type of person you are. A tidy house and order etc. is important to me to feel good, for others it's not so much of a priority so I think that it depends on how important it is to you!

LO2 is 12 days old and I have a 20 month old. So far so good on keeping the house up! I let it go when DS was born but feel way more put together this time around! I'm a SAHM if that makes a difference...

Hell yes. It was so bad, my mom even commented on how messy my house was at 10 weeks. I snapped at her to clean it herself, if it bothered her so damn much. Wtf? I mean, who has a clean house with a newborn?! lol. Nobody
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
A bit but I think by most people's standards it was probably still clean. My DH is a clean freak and my mom also stayed with us for 2 months. That woman never stops moving.

A little, but I usually am just a bit behind, depending on how much the baby naps. He's never been a sleepy newborn (he's just about six weeks now), so he can be kind of demanding. There are dishes in the sink right now, but the laundry is done, folded and away. The bathroom could use a wipe, but my counters are all cleaned.
I probably do half as much and it takes longer...but we're getting things done.

I'm a neat freak so I was worried about this. I deep cleaned before LO arrived, but to be honest, I just didnt have the time or energy to clean for a good 10 weeks! I "superficially" cleaned and picked up stuff on a daily basis, but deep cleaning and and organizing/etc didnt happen for quite some time!

Yes! I feel like I am.constantly trying to keep up, bit it still.doesn't get done. We tried to have it really organized before she cam, whi h helps. It is just hard to stay on top of things when.I want to.snuggleh baby!

Oh goodness yes. I always had my dishes and the laundry done. The rest I just ignored. I don't think I cleaned my floors until LO was 3 months old. Then once she started napping properly at 5.5 months, I was able to keep on top of things better.
pomegranate / 3113 posts
Yes, I let it go. At 5.5 months, it's still gone. Although, it was only half there in the first place...

I did when she was a newborn, but I got back into the swing of things somewhat quickly. We put our house on the market when she was 4-5 months and had to keep it ready for showings.
