Disposables only! I know I'm not a good candidate for cloth dipes so the planner in me (and the extreme couponer in my mom) wants to stock up on disposables before the baby gets here.
is this a bad idea? Or get a variety?

we started with pampers swaddlers and are 100% happy with them! we tried huggies once (they were gifted) and only ended up using 3 diapers from the package.
couponing is great!!
eta: we use cruisers now, because they don't sell swaddlers in our LO's size (4) at our local store.

We started off with Pampers Swaddlers, and still use them almost 8 months later. We've also used Huggies Snugglers and Pampers Baby Dry, and while those worked just fine, I'm still more of a fan of the Swaddlers.

In my experience, baby's build makes a big difference in which diapers work best. That said, I completely understand the desire to prepare. For my big chubby babe (Ellie) I liked Huggies. For my short slender babe (Lorelei) we use cloth, but I'm almost positive I'd prefer Pampers. Whatever you choose, I don't think you can go far wrong...

The hospital used pampers swaddled and we liked them. But we had Huggies at home, so we started with those and no complaints.

I bought pampers swaddlers and loved them. I found it was cheapest to buy them at amazon with subscribe and save....$37 for a box of 188.
I personally would buy one big box of newborn and one big box of size 1 from amazon. I used these two boxes plus the ones I got at my shower.
If you need to buy in a physical store, try to save your receipts. Walmart and cvs have good return policies for diapers so I would try there.

Btw, I hated sensitive, the ones I used did not have the gel beads and LO was constantly peeing through his diaper.

For DS, Pampers swaddlers, then Fisher Price Day/Night, and ended with Seventh Generation.. For DD, started with Pampers swaddlers, then Seventh Generation, and now Honest Diapers. I think for our soon to be LO, I'll start with Pampers Swaddlers, and then move to Honest Diapers once she is out of the newborn size.

The hospital used huggies. But we had bought Pampers swaddlers and I love them. We were gifted a few huggies but they started to leave little white peices/ beads on LO's bum.
ETA I read somewhere it was good to start early like you want to so you can stock up and save $. They said to just tape the reciept to the outside of the package so if you need to return / exchange it you can. I thought that was a great idea just never did it...lol.

I think if you stock up on Pampers or Huggies you will be fine, since most people like them just fine... I'd probably wait before stocking up on any other brands. I tried BRU diapers and they are so stiff and scratchy that I'm tempted to not even use the bag I have.

Yup, started off with Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive, switched to Huggies/Costco to try to save $$$ but ultimately ended up back w/Sensitive Swaddlers after a couple months. They're the best!!

What is the difference between swaddlers and sensitive swaddlers? I have really sensitive skin so tthere's a good chance LO will too.I'm relieved to see almost everyone likes the same kind, that makes it easy to decide lo!

Pampers Swaddlers are our fav. I don't mind huggies though! Stocking up in multiple sizes is a great idea, I wouldn't do a ton in the newborn size though. We had 2 packs and we didn't use any. Lots of 1,2&3s for the first 6 months!

Yeah. We started out on Huggies Little Snugglers and used those through size 2. Then we switched to Pampers Baby Dry 12 hour and love those too!
We hated Luvs (they have a nauseatingly strong smell to me). I also like the Target Brand.

We loved Pampers Swaddlers which is what the hospital had. I also had previously bought Huggies Pure and Natural and ended up liking those as well.
Wasnt a fan of Pampers Baby Dry. The scent bothered me.

yes, we have exclusively used pampers swaddlers. I used those nannying so I was already used to them. I used cruisers, too, when they outgrew swaddlers - but now they have size 4 and 5 in swaddlers!
ETA - I'd stock up on 1s and 2s, I plan to skip NB size entirely next time. My hospital doesn't even stock NB size, they put the babies in size 1 and close it tight. I had a ton of NB leftover. We used probably 1 case of NB (but was unnecessary), then 3 cases (maybe?) size 1 because she was in it until 2 months old. Then she was in size 2 for awhile, and now has been in size 3 for a couple months.

I did stock up a bit when Target had their crazy sales but I wouldn't go too crazy. Def save your receipts. I tried Huggies Little Snugglers first and still use Huggies Little Movers now!

@MrsTiz: hubs & I have very sensitive skin, but Sadie isn't bothered at all by the regular Swaddlers. They do a great job of wicking the moisture away from her skin. We were gifted some sensitives, and we liked them, but the regular Swaddlers work just as well. We were given a bunch of Huggies too, and liked them. We tried the BRU brand, but they feel like construction paper & she peed through them several times. We love the Swaddlers, so we'll stick with those until she needs size 4's.
As far as sizing, Sadie still fits in newborns at 2 months. We were told to just use 1's and skip buying any newborns to save money, but we've used all the newborns we bought or were gifted. 1's were way too big for the first 5-6 weeks! You might want to get at least one small case of newborns just in case you get a little bub.

We got a few different kinds at my shower and the only ones that worked for DS were pampers. The luvs and huggies just didn't do well with him. I would maybe buy some, but you never know what's going to work or not

We started with huggies little snugglers and switched to pampers swaddlers when she moved into size two. We were having blowouts with huggies and have had very few with pampers.

Huggies didn't work well in the beginning, either did Target newborn but they work now. I have always liked Pampers but they are bit pricey for our budget. We got a lot for our shower though, so that was nice. Luvs were a good brand too.

We tried huggies first but DD used pampers swaddlers and then baby dry best (cruisers at the time were undergoing reformulation and giving some babies chemical burns which they have since fixed). DS does better with Huggies..

We stocked up on Pampers Swaddlers and I was really happy with them. I liked them so much, I dreaded having to switch when LO got too big for them. We got them on AmazonUK and so far, they're the cheapest I've found where I'm at. But check every so often because the price fluctuates even online. I did notice that when they are really cheap on Amazon, the price doesn't last that way for long, so you have to move fast.

We used pampers swaddlers and swaddlers sensitive for newborn-size 3. Then, went to cruisers, which are still really soft. But, the price was getting to me! At first we switched to Luvs and I didn't care for the scent. But now, I don't even notice it and they are way softer than generic brands, but about the same price. With coupons at BJs I can get a box of 188 size 4s for around $25.

I work for a hospital so we get fab deals on diapers that you can't find in a store. The bummer thing is that our hospital just switched from Pampers to Huggies and now given all of your comments I'm really bummed that I'm getting a great deal, but you all seem to like Pampers better as a whole. I hope that I didn't just buy a ton of diapers that I'm going to hate. I'd really like to stick with Huggies given the amazing discount.

L must be a freak, but we really haven't had any problems with pampers (swaddlers and baby dry), Huggies, luvs or seventh generation. I Keep swapping based on what's on sale.
The only things I've hated so far were Huggies wipes.

Skipping over the comments but we got pampers swaddlers (what the hospital also used) and never had problems with them, so we stuck to them! We've also tried Huggies and Earths Best, which were ok too, but we're a pampers family!

If we had a great discount I'd switch. I also didn't realize until recently (because the huggies we had were gifted) that huggies also makes the ones with a wetness indicator.

We only use disposable for travel. But my first diaper was seventh generation and they didn't work at all for us. Lo leaked constantly.

Yes. Hospital gave us Pampers Swaddlers. Though we were gifted some Huggies and some no name brand and I have used them all, DH is only comfortable using Pampers like he started on!

We used Huggies first because the hospital had those. They were great for newborn and size 1. At size 2, we moved to Pampers Swaddlers. We actually found a great deal at Lowes one day. They were replacing the current ones with boxes of a new brand look. We bought a cart full of 2's and I said we will use these whether we like them or not! I'm all about a sale and would definitely stock up if you have coupons or see good deals.

I really like Nature Babycare diapers. Eco friendly (no plastic!) and they work really well for us (very absorbent for my heavy wetter). You don't have to worry about chemical burns and stuff with them because they don't have all that synthetic stuff in them. You can get them from Amazon and they're around the same price as Pampers Swaddlers.
