I loved living in the dorms. Somehow I got 4 full years (usually at my school people only get 3 so most Juniors live off campus) and I lived in a single my senior year (there were only a handful on the entire campus) and I loved loved loved it.

Will RJ live in dorms? I'm assuming!

My husband and I both lived in dorms our full college careers. I was in a girls dorm where each room was for 2 people and there were two communal bathrooms per floor. I had no problem with it but the second year I was blessed with a decent roommate. We stayed together my remaining 3 years. We had some fights but once we worked out a system it wasn't a big deal. Will our son live in campus dorms? Absolutely.

I went to college 30 min from home, but I still lived in the dorms. I lived with a friend that I'd known forever (we weren't really close, but ended up becoming best friends) and our other friend lived just down the hall. We lived in one of the newest dorms (only 2 or 3 yrs old) and it was really nice. I didn't mind it- it was actually a lot of fun!

The next 2 years of college (I graduated in 3 years), I lived with those same 2 friends plus another girl in an on-campus apartment. That was even better because we all had our own rooms, but we still hung out a lot and bonded over exams and ice cream lol.

I absolutely hated my dorm experience. My room was really tiny, right across from the bathrooms...gross. My roommate also decided she hated me during spring semester, so it was just a really horrible place to live. My sophomore year was so, so much better just because I had my own bedroom and bathroom in the apartment I shared with my friend.

I think I will want my kids to live in a dorm for their first year, though--I will just do a lot of research and help them try to get into a good one. I think it's an important step in gaining independence, living with new people, and trying to find community on campus.

I loved living in a dorm, to me it's the college experience. I'd love for my son to have a traditional experience in a dorm, but who knows what he'll be like.

I lived in a dorm my first two years of college and then on-campus apartments the last two. I LOVED on-campus life! My first roommate wasn't horrible, but we never really hung out or had anything in common. And then after that, I lived with my best friend, so it was awesome! I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything! Hopefully my kids will live in dorms at some point, at least to get the experience.

I lived in a dorm for three years and a campus owned apartment my senior year. Although I didn't get along with my freshman roommate, I met some of my closest friends in that dorm, and feel like it's a big part of college life! Even if our LOs go to school nearby, we will encourage them to live on campus (or at least live out of the house) during college, to get some of that independant growing up experience.

I never lived in a dorm. I stayed at home the first year because there were no dorms. After that I moved in with my husband.

I did. Only for 2 years, at which time I thought I was too cool and decided to get an apartment that I had to pay for myself (what... a dumb dumb). I loved it. And as much craziness as I recall seeing (or participating in, whatever) I think it's a positive experience and will not keep my LO from trying it out. And, when she decides she's too cool for the dorms, she'll have to pay for her apartment too! hehe

Yep, she will. (I did.) I want her to experience the whole college experience.

I lived in a dorm all 4 years, too. I didn't like the first semester because my roommate sucked! My next 3 roommates were cool, so I didn't mind sharing a room. Also, my school had suites, so I only had to share a bathroom with 3 other people. (2 suites were connected by one bathroom) My last two years, I had a single. So that was nice.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with dorms. If my LO wants to live in a dorm, I would let them stay in one.

I lived in a dorm my first year, and while I didn't love it, I'm glad to have the experience. It made it really easy to meet people and make friends and broaden my horizons with my living situation. It was also really convenient to have a meal plan through the dorms, which meant I didn't really have to worry about cooking/grocery shopping at all the first year, which was helpful.

I am an only child so living with a (slob) roommate for a year was a real eye-opener.

I'm going to probably make my kids do the same, if they want to go to college.

I lived in a dorm my first year, but it was kind of a cheater dorm experience. First, I roomed with a girl I already knew from junior high. It wasn't all rainbows, but we already got along fairly well from the get-go. She's one of my best friends today. Second, we lived in apartment style dorms and only shared a bathroom with two other girls, both of which were very clean. I visited friends who lived in the "normal" dorms, and while they seemed like a lot of fun, I'm happy with the experience that I had.

If LO wants to dorm, that's fine with me.

I did for freshman year and although I did not love the "dorm life" it was OK. A neat experience for sure and one of the dorm mates I still keep in contact with regularly.

If our kids want to, sure!
