I can't choose an answer. We didn't live together before the wedding but only because my dad suddenly had an opinion about it after we got engaged. We had a short engagement (less than 7 months) so I figured it wasn't a big deal.

I lived with a boyfriend in college when I was 18/19. That ended badly so I made a rule for myself that I wouldn't live with any guy again until I was engaged. Interestingly enough (given my answer in the other thread) I actually don't think living with someone before you're engaged/committed to marriage is a good idea. But it's a lesson I had to learn for myself because I wouldn't have believed anyone who told me.

I moved in with my DH after we were engaged and we bought a house together. That was 13 mo before our wedding (longish engagement because we wanted to buy a house first and needed to save money).

We were engaged. I moved in his condo in July and we got married in November.

YEP. We lived together for 3 years before we were engaged and then another year before we were married.

Yes. We moved in together after 8 months of dating.

I, personally, think it's a great way to know if you're even compatible to live with the other person before making a huge commitment like marriage.

@locavore_mama: We had been unpacking the week before.. But our house was even completely done. The chaos aside, it was kind of special to spend our first married night together in our home! If our house wasn't ready we were gonna stay in his dumpy (sorry DH) apt which def would not have been as romantic lol

DH and I got an apartment together three months before we were married.

Yes LOL we lived together, bought a house, and built a life together all before we tied the knot. We were together for 9 1/2 years before getting married.

Yep we lived together for a year before being engaged and basically lived together throughout college.

I've lived with 3 boyfriends. The last I married. I'm not worried about statistics. I know we're in it forever. We also married much older which makes us statistically more likely to remain married.

Yes - heck, we bought a house together before we were married! Sinner level upped!

I also lived with previous SOs. I wouldn't marry someone without living with them (among other "tests").

@yoursilverlining: haha, we did too! But we were engaged before buying the house. And then we got married in the house.

@JennyLayneAZ: and @YourSilverLining: Exactly this. There were however, differing ... ahem... opinions in our house of when we should get married. (Waiting to be engaged while owning a house together has been the hardest part of our relationship.)

Absolutely! I much prefer living together for time before marriage to jumping in for a surprise later lol It was great for conflict resolution skills and really getting to know each other. My mom knew I was living with him and she didn't care either way, but I didn't really give her an option I just told her I was moving to another state to live with him (though I did use finding a job there as a bit of an excuse haha)
