I'm not pregnant yet but one of my friends did this.
I'm wondering how common this is.

Nope...my MOH was my sister, but since neither of my sisters are active Catholics, we just picked a friend as the Godmother for LO.

Ha! I looked at the question and my knee jerk response was "no", because to me they have very different roles. But then I remembered that my sister was my MOH and we're going to ask her and BIL to be godparents. I'd say that was just coincidence though. We'd ask hubby's sister and her husband for the next one.

Lo doesn't have a godmother. But if something happens to us my moh, my sister, will be her guardian.

My sister and I were each other's MOH's and I am my nephew's godmother, she will be my LO's godmother. But, it's not necessarily because it's tradition, rather, she's the person I'm closest to so she was an obvious choice for both roles.
My mom did tell me it is tradition to do that though. I'm sure my two little sisters will do the same (be MOH for each other and godmother, eventually).

Yes I did! I don't have a sister and I'm not close with any of my SIL's. Her God father was my husband's BM.

I didn't have a bridal party, but my bff would have been my MOH. She will also be Godmom.

We haven't gotten l baptized yet but she won't be the godmother. I think we are picking a couple we didn't even know before we got married! (Only to serve as godparents - not guardians- 2 different things!)

My BFF/MOH is Cs unofficial godmother. She will be her legal guardian if anything happens to DH and I. We arent having C christened, but she will be a legal part of her life.

We haven't chosen godparents yet but we're deciding between our maid of honor and best man, or DH's sister and either her husband or my brother.

She won't be. She thinks that she will be for the next child. We have this thing about 2nd children since we were little.

Yes! My MOH is also my daughter's godmother. I'm an only child so this is my oldest/closest friend. My husband's brother was his best man and is also the godfather.
