With LO we didnt. we declined the hospital photos and then never ordered any paper announcements. This time I'm thinking of just creating our own.
What did you do?

We ordered them from Shutterfly and used an iPhone photo my husband snapped in the hospital. We will probably do the same this time.

Yes via minted. They hooked me and when they started offering free addressing two years ago. I spent 15 min uploading my address book and boom, they got my business for holidays and all other cards I send out. They offer credit you can buy once or twice a year at a hefty discount if you don't have pics yet for a holiday card or announcement. I finish my Xmas cards in October since they offer 40% off :). Yes I know I'm insane.

We did the hospital ones. They weren't the best pictures but I ended up being in the hospital for 6 days so it was nice to just have them come in, take pics and then pick an announcement. The announcements showed up at my house in like 2-3 weeks. More than likely I will do that again.

Yes for both LOs. First one I used photos I took and ordered from tiny prints. Second time I splurged on actual newborn photos, because I wanted them but they were also good to use for the announcement. Like @Littlebit7: minted totally has my business now since they offer free recipient addressing!

We did. We picked a photo from our professional newborn shoot and had the announcements printed through TinyPrints.
The addressing feature through minted sounds pretty awesome. Will have to look into that.

DH designed ours in Photoshop and I got it next day printed through Staples. Can't beat 100 announcements with envelopes for $20.

Thanks everyone, I'll check out minted
@bluestriped bee: I love staples!! I used them to print a ton of stationary for my wedding

Nope. With LO2 I made thank you cards with our newborn photos though on vistsprint. And with LO1 I sent Xmas cards with a newborn pic as he was born right before Xmas - it was the only year I've ever mailed out Xmas cards.

We had two announcements. The first was a name announcement we printed and placed on the baby and took a cell phone pic and sent via text. I think our name choice was a bit unsual for family (well, everyone really) and I wanted to nip any negative vibes in the bud rightaway. Compliments on his name poured in.
The second was a birth annoucement with his birth stats and a picture of the three of us the hospital took. Both were created by @Avivoca: she does great work!

@MaisyMay: that's cool! Their free recipient addressing is genius to keep people coming back- but I also think they have the best designs.

Yes with DD1. dD2 is 6 weeks and we just got our photos back so I don't think I'm going to. If anything, I will order a handful just so I can have one as a keepsake.

I ordered announcements for both kiddos. We had a newborn shoot and just ordered my own from an online store.

We had a newborn photo shoot and then used Minted (and their addressing service). They turned out beautifully.

I didn't order any for my first, but I ordered a set for my second. It was on sale at Shutterfly, and I spent maybe $10.

Yes, from tiny prints I think. For both kids I picked out a few styles I liked before birth and just plugged in the picture and information when LO arrived.
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Good thinking on the name announcement. Both sets of parents heard DD's name wrong over the phone and it was awkward.

We did. They were really cheap because I got a deal from groupon or something. Next time, I will probably spend a little more and order from a nicer place to get better quality.

I ordered them through Shutterfly. We had a professional newborn shoot when she was a week old.

Yep, I took photos (I'm a professional photographer) and created the design and had them printed through my lab. The outcome is similar to a minted photo card but I was able to save a lot by designing and printing myself.

We used a photo layout from our newborn session & printed cards at Costco.

She was born in October so I just put a mini announcement on the back of our Christmas cards. I wanted to use our newborn photos and we didn't get them back until around Thanksgiving so it seemed to make the most sense for us.

Yes for both. For #1 I used a picture I took and then made something in shutterfly. For #2, we had newborn pics done and then I took one of them and used tiny prints to make an announcement.

Yes, but they doubled at Christmas cards. She was a late October baby. We used Tiny Prints.

For LO1 we had newborn photos done and did an announcement with Tiny Prints using those.
For this LO (pregnant now) we are also doing newborn photos but will be using Minted for announcements since I love their free (and cute!) addressing and have switched to them for holiday cards/bday invites/etc since LO1's birth due to that.
