did you poo while pushing out your lo?

While pushing I told my husband that it was extremely hard to push and try not to poo. I asked multiple times if I had poo'd. The nurse kept telling me not to worry about it, but I couldn't help it! I am very weird when it comes to pooing, nobody can be anywhere near the bathroom when I go. I literally kick hubby out of hotel rooms so I can use the bathroom. So no way did I want to poo with everybody there. Hubby swears to this day that I didn't poo... I don't know if he's telling the truth or just trying to be nice though since he knows my poo weirdness.

I'm already worried about pooing during baby #2s birth, and we aren't even ttc yet!

I'm totally worried about this too! I've also been known to kick DH out of hotel rooms/my apartment (before we lived together) so that I could go to the bathroom. After we got married, he drew the line (that I could no longer ask him to leave), so now I just make sure he's at least 2 rooms away...haha

I have a colon/intestinal disorder, so I've always been really sensitive about this kind of stuff.

I think maybe I did but I honestly have no clue and luckily no one said anything to me about poo either!

I did. Didn't realize til way after the fact. They had whisked it away and wiped me completely down before I even noticed. I had to ask Rob Sr. if I had pooped. He reluctantly admitted that I had, and the nurses were completely nonchalant about it. I was in way too much pain and distress to even care.

ETA: Just confirmed with Rob Sr. that I actually pooped before I even started pushing.

So with baby #1, one of the first signs of labor was that I went poo 4x (!) in the afternoon... Contractions then started that evening. So I feel like I had pretty much cleared out my system before going into labor, so one less thing to worry about!

With #2, her entire labor and delivery was so fast. I didn't poop. I pushed her out in 2 pushes.

The first time I heard about this, I was really worried about it, but now that I am actually pregnant and have had time to think more about it, I'm not really bothered about it too much. I wont go out of my way to try not to poop, I'll just push as hard as I can and not think about it. The med team are professionals and see this all the time, I dont think they will be bothered if I poop accidentally and my husband and I have talked about it a lot too.

I did but had absolutely no idea at the time. DH told me later. The midwife and OB didn't miss a beat. I figure they tell you to push as if you are pushing the biggest poop of your life they can hardly complain when more than just baby comes out!

@tina: LOL!

i was so worried about pooping, but i actually had to poop just before my contractions started so i got it all out. i didn't poop during either labors.

i totally feel you because i am weird about pooping too!

I did. I didn't know it at the time, but I did. Its still the thing that I am freaking out about with DD when I deliver her. For one thing I have been really constipated this time, and when I go, I GO! I lost 2 lbs the other day. I can't imagine doing that much while pushing!

Yes, I did. A lot. I got over it pretty quickly because those were my most effective pushes. I knew because they gave me a mirror, I was having a hard time effectively pushing with the epidural (even on a quarter dose, they eventually turned it off) the mirror helped me focus on pushing. The nurse cleaned it up so quick that nobody really noticed it had happened.

My labor went so fast that I never got all the poop out before it was time to push.

Nope, but I was in so much pain I probably wouldn't have cared. I'm already dreading the pain with #2, and we're not TTC yet either!

I did with my second child. With the first, they gave me a enema as soon as I got admitted, so I didn't have to worry about that.

I was SO worried about this but hubs said I didn't. My nurse friends told me that if a woman does poo, they are quick to wipe it away because they know women make a big deal about it! LOL.

I was worried about this before labour, and after but not during. Scott says I didn't and the nurses didn't say anything so I'm going to believe him and say I didn't.

worried about this too, but i guess since i'm doing c-section, i won't have to worry about it? if i weren't doing c-section, i'd hope for a later-in-the-afternoon birth because i poop daily in the morning hehe.

@lilteacherbee: I thought I was the only one! Hubby has crohns and I feel like for him he's so used to using public bathrooms because he always has (had actually, he currently has a colostomy ) to go that second so he can't wait for privacy. That's my worst nightmare!

@lemondrop: they offered me a mirror because I was asking for a play by play from hubby and they thought I would want to see for myself. But now I'm extra glad I refused!

@artbee: Wow, I had a colostomy temporarily for 3 months when I was a kid. So so thankful that my issues are worked out now so that I only have to take medicine. But I know what you mean...I've planned my entire day around when I'll be home to use the bathroom. It sounds ridiculous, but it can give me major anxiety!

Psht, for how much I'm spending for medical care I hope I do poop! I'm weird about poop too but for the complete opposite reason as most women. I have literally no shame about it. I can poop with the bathroom door open and my husband looking at me if I need to. If I poop during labor I'm going to hysterically laugh.

Also, pooping at work is the best. I make good money per hour and the fact that im paid to drop a deuce makes me rather do it there than at home for free!

Do you ladies fart around your husbands? DH and I have been open fart people for ages with one another. Why should I be uncomfortable around the person I spend the most time with?

Ok. See... this confuses me. Every woman ever online says that you aren't aware of it and they dispose of it without you even being aware. Hooray! I'm not concerned about this...
Then last week at aqua aerobics (which is led by midwives) we were talking about poop during labor and they shook their heads and said "Oh, you know." I'm sure I'll be focused on other things in the moment, but still...
Why the different answers?!? Any thoughts?

@Nskillet: I used to hate having to poo at work! There was only bathroom so someone was always standing outside waiting, and everybody always knew who was in there. Thank goodness I'm a SAHM and the only person that sees me poo is LO.

I do not fart around my husband. I never will (on purpose at least). It's just not me.

The night before my water broken (in the middle of the night) I totally poo'd for like 30 minutes. I thought it was weird because I was pooing with so much pain. Then that night, my water broke at 2am. So I was emptied out before I went into labor.

@Artbee single bathrooms are slightly more understandable but let it fly girl!

See, we are weird in completely different ways.

All kidding aside I know many women who can't much like you so you're not alone. Does hubby fart in front of you?

@MegWag: IRL when women talk about pregnancy and birth it always seems to be the worst case scenario ( " I was in labour for 57 hours, then I pushed for 6 and needed 213 stitches. "). Dunno why that is. Don't worry about it! The medical staff don't care and have seen it a bazillion times before. You will have other things to worry about and it''s not like you can hold it in!

I have actually seen doctors/nurses lie to Moms about if they pooped or not. The Mom will ask if they just pooped, and someone will deny it even if they did. I think there are a good number of people who think they didn't poop when they actually did.
If I was someones husband and the doctor/nurse denied it I don't think I would be saying otherwise.

Of course, everyone would rather they didn't, but it really isn't such a big deal to the staff.

@MegWag: I think that there is so much pressure down there that you might not notice, the pooping is right at the end when the pressure is at its highest ... it is like the babies head steam rollers the poop out just as it descends.

@MegWag: I don't think I could tell if I poo'd. But I was thinking about it. I had an epidural so while the was still a lot of pressure which got painful, I wasn't only focused on the pain.

@cupcakemama: I just thought it was especially weird because it was the midwives saying "No. You know." Everyone else seems to down play.

I'm not too worried about it because I figure there's not much room to be precious about stuff when you're pushing a baby out of your hoo-ha!

When I was in labor, the midwives would occasionally change out the chux pad that was being used, especially after a really strenuous push...so my deduction is that there were some bowel movements.

They're professionals, it's not like they are standing around giggling about it, lol.
