We have our one day prepared childbirth class this weekend. Did you do some reading or preparing in advance of the class? Or just show up ready to take it all in? I started reading the labor bit from What to Expect last night, and I read every birth story on HB, but wondering if there is anything else I should be doing. DH.... well, he saw Knocked Up, does that count as preparing?

I didn't take any class so no, I didn't prepare. tehe.

No, didn't read up before the class. Our hospital went through the basics of childbirth, labor and delivery, etc. really well. None of it seemed frightening or scary. We did the tour, but had already been in a labor & delivery suite for a friend's birth, so we knew what the room was like. Honestly, don't think that my DH and I retained much information from our classes other than the CPR one.

@Foodnerd81: Lol! I love birthstories too.. I'm really picky about the ones I read as labor prep though (only unmedicated, mostly homebirth or unassisted)

@runsyellowlites: I actually want to read them all to be ready for anything. Well, as ready as I can be. But while I'm hoping to go unmedicated, I know things don't always go as planned so I ALSO want to know about the different interventions and options. I'm delivering in a hospital so I suppose the homebirths aren't directly relevant, but you know, birth is kind of the same process is either way, it's all the outside stuff that changes. So I like them all.

@Foodnerd81: I really didn't learn anything new from my birth class (It was an 8 hour, 1 saturday type thing about birth in general---not a particular method or anything). But I thought it was helpful for DH, since he doesn't spend all his time on Hellobee and researching things on the 'net.

@Anagram: Good to know. Ours is similar-- 8 hour one day thing. But it's in the hospital where I'll be delivering so it will also include their policies and a tour at the very least.

I didn't prepare. It actually might not be a bad idea if they do the same kind of class that we did because they put us into groups of boys and girls and asked us to come up with questions that we had. Of course I had some questions, but if I would have read up more I'm sure I could have come up with some better ones, and that way all of my questions would be answered.
