Not sure how to vote. Mine went straight to the crib, but the crib's in our room.

We used a bassinet for the first five weeks but that was mainly because we were planning on moving and didn't want to set up a nursery only to take it down. Also a friend lent me her bassinet. I don't think I would have bought one. While it was convenient to have LO right by me, her noises kept me up at night and I usually went out to the couch to nurse anyway. We had no problems when we tranistioned her to the crib. She's an okay sleeper (up until the past few weeks). I think if the nursery is relatively close to my room, I'd just put LO in the crib right away next time.

We tried to have her in our room, but moved her out on the 2nd night because she just made too much noise in her sleep. It was better for all of us if she was in her crib in her room. I hated to do it because I wanted to be able to wake up and check on her at anytime, without having to go all the way across the house, but it really wasn't that bad. And she was able to get used to the mattress in her crib, instead of getting used to the bassinet and then the crib.

We used a pack n play bassinet in our room for 4.5 months before we transitioned LO to her crib.

If you plan to nurse it's great to have baby in your room.

We had T in the rock n play in our room for the first month. He hated being totally flat on his back and wouldn't sleep. We moved him to his room (literally 3 feet away) where he slept in his r and p til 15w. We moved him to his room bc he was a noisy sleeper and I never got the hang of nursing in bed anyways. We transitioned him to his crib at 15w and it wasn't really a problem -- he was already in his room -- BUT I had a lot of anxiety over the transition thinking he would sleep poorly flat on his back. His sleep was regressing around that time and we went for it and it was fine. Next baby will not be sleeping in the rock and play though - flat on back for sure. It makes it easier for naps and travel etc.

My LO has been in his crib in his nursery since the first night home. My mentality going into it was that I always wanted to make sure that our master bedroom remains "our" room - it's the only room in our home that doesn't have any baby stuff in it. I figured if he slept horribly the first week we could always go out and buy a bassinet if needed.

Some people warned me that putting him in the crib right away or letting him sleep in a different room wouldn't work because he would feel lost, but he's slept fine minus the first two nights home. My biggest advice is to learn how to swaddle very well - seriously practice on a stuffed animal or doll before your baby arrives!! As soon as we learned how to swaddle him tightly, he slept much better. He does very well with naps in the crib now, too - he pretty much falls asleep as soon as I lay him down.

I would definitely do straight to crib again. The only time I would re-consider is if we move to a new house and the master bedroom is on a different level from the other bedrooms.

I don't have a baby yet (waiting to TTC), but I think a lot of it depends on the layout of your house. If the nursery is right across the hall, I think it would be fine to go straight to the crib. Our bedroom is on the first floor and all other bedrooms are on the second floor, so we'll definitely be using a bassinet.

Also, I think it depends on your personality. I am super type A, so I know that I would never get any sleep because I would constantly be getting up to go to the baby's room to check on her. If you are more relaxed, then that probably wouldn't be as much of an issue.

There is no way I could have slept even a wink if the baby was outside of our room at first. We had her in a bassinet right next to the bed at first, and I looked in there about 50 times a night at every noise she made. There was also no way I would be getting up and out of bed, and leaving the room to get her every 2 hours throughout the night. Too hard when you're still physically recovering. I'm a very laid back parent too, but was too anxious to have a newborn so far from me.

My cousin did crib from day 1 and she daughter is a great night sleeper. Our LO now co-sleeps (and has since about 6 weeks old), and is a great night sleeper. So, I'm not sure what to rexommmend since I think it depends a lot on the temperament of your baby, which you won't know until she's here.

LO was in her crib from day 1. There really isn't any extra room in our bed, plus she made so many noises in her sleep as a newborn. The nursery is right across from our room though and we left both doors wide open, plus had the video monitor turned up.

LO is a great sleeper and I do think that consistency from the start helped a ton, but attribute more of it to her personality/luck of the draw. I do agree with PPs on the amazingness that is swaddling!

C slept in her bouncer on our floor for 2 weeks and then went into the crib. We planned to do a PnP in our room, but she hated it. She started sleeping long night stretched very early on and I think we all got much better sleep with her in her room and us in ours.

Next time, it will be right into the crib.

There was no way I was going to walk across the hall to get my baby 10 times at night after I had just given birth and walking was painful. No. Freaking. Way.

Also, I think babies tend to sleep better when there parents are close by. For our son, that meant sleeping WITH us. We tried the whole bassinet thing and he hated it. He would scream and never stay asleep for more than 20 minutes. We co slept only a few months, then transitioned him to his crib but it was a piece of cake.

One thing that helped us with the transition is that we would spend a nice chunk of the day in his room. We played in their constantly, I did his laundry in there with him on the floor, we changed all his diapers there etc. He was used to his room and comfortable there before he was sleeping there.

Also, you could allow night sleep in your room, but put Harper down for naps in her crib. That way she can still associate sleep with her room. And perhaps when you're ready to transition at night, it will be easier.

Crib in our room!

I loved having M in our room for her first 3 months. She was a quiet sleeper and I loved being able to check on her whenever I wanted to without getting out of bed. We used her crib for naps and play and she transitioned at 11 weeks with absolutely no problems. She will sleep anywhere, though....bassinet, pack n play, our bed, crib, couch (yes, with supervision), etc.

ETA: @jholler25: I bought my bassinet for $35 at a kids sale. Best $35 we spent, imo. I will probably be able to sell it for more. Doesn't matter that it's used, it works perfectly and I was able to check recalls because it's a popular brand. For something you use that minimally, used is the way to go, imo.

We're planning to co-sleep in the beginning. I want to breastfeed and I like sleeping (haha), so I decided that was the best way of making both happen! We'll see how it goes.

Moms have this completely mystifying habit of threatening other moms with failure if they don't do things their way. There's more than one way to skin a cat, bubs. You're smart; do whatever works for you and Harper!

Crib for naps and he slept with us at first. We slowly transitioned to crib in his room sometime around the first month.

LO slept in the car carrier in our room for the first 8 weeks (she had reflux) then we transitioned to the Uppababy bassinet. I needed her close! I was also crazy and would put the bassinet in the crib when I'd put her down for the night, so we could get stuff done in our bedroom. Then when I was ready for bed, I'd make my husband very carefully and quietly carry the bassinet into our room and put it next to the bed so she could sleep near me.

I wasn't sure how long we'd use the bassinet, so I never bought the stand (so expensive!). I just put it on the floor. Is that gross? I figured it was no closer to the floor than a PnP. We transitioned to a crib at around 4 or 5 months.

We started with the crib, which was just down the hall from our room. For the first few sleep-deprived weeks, I found myself wishing it was in our room so I wouldn't have to get up and walk down the hall all night to feed/soothe her. But, looking back I'm glad we kept her in her own room because at least one of us got a few hours of uninterrupted sleep at a time (we shared evening feedings) and we didn't have to worry about transitioning her later.

We used the pack and play in our room for the first 4 weeks for nighttime, but he slept in his crib for naps during the day. When we transitioned him to the crib for night there were no problems. With waking up so much to feed him in the middle of the night at first I wouldn't have wanted to walk to the other side of the house every time.
