I totally read those! And Sweet Valley Twins. Not sure if some of the younger girls in HB know what those are

Yes, I read Baby Sitter's Club, Sweet Valley Twins and Sweet Valley High! I was addicted to them! Strangely as much as I loved the books, I never saw the BSC movie and only 1-2 episodes of the Sweet Valley tv show.

Yup, totally loved those books! I liked Dawn. Oh and I totally watched the TV episodes too. They must've been on VHS.
Also loved Sweet Valley Twins and Sweet Valley High!

Yes! They were like pre-teen crack - I'd get a new one and then spend the next day devouring it. My mom always liked buying the "super-special" ones best because they lasted me two days instead of one.

Yes!!! Also Sweet Valley which now has an adult version e-book series. Wish BSC would do the same... That would be so fun!

I used to read them (and Sweet Valley High) hidden under my desk at school. I would finish like one a day.
I saw one at a consignment shop the other day and almost bought it. Then I remembered I have a boy. What the heck did boys read back in the day?
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@glimmersnaps: I agree, I think boys read a lot of goosbumps.
I loved the baby sitters club (and little sisters). I even started a little baby sitting service with a girl in my neighborhood. We would refer people to one another based on our availability and even put up ads!

Oh yeah! I loved those books.
@T-Mom: My mom really didn't want me reading Sweet Valley Twins and High. She thought they were trash books. Haha!!
honeydew / 7504 posts
I had the entire set. And then I gifted them all to my sister - the box weighed like 20 pounds. I don't know if she ever read them, though. She was more into Goosebumps and scary books.

YES! And watched the movies. I was obsessed! Oooh and read the Little Sister ones too!

Oh man, yeah. I LOVED when we got the book orders in elementary school. I always made my mom get the latest BSC book for me. One time I went with my friend to a mall for a book signing...we waited in line for HOURS to get our favorite BSC book signed! Totally worth it though!!!

Loooved BSC and Sweet Valley High! I recently tried to get my husband to buy me the first 30 Sweet Valley High books on eBay (someone was selling them as a set) but the price got outrageous! I guess we are not the only ones who loved those books!
clementine / 916 posts
I had a Scholastic subscription to them. I loved the Sweet Valley books too.
@anonysquire: Loooved boxcar children! Goosebump books were my brothers which I read too, my fav was the Ghost Next Door.

I read the BSC books too, although my parents thought they were garbage and refused to buy them. Out of the library they came, probably a few at a time. Never read Sweet Valley books. Also loved the Boxcar children series! And, a little later, every book in the Anne of Green Gables series. Loooooooooved those!

I only every single one of the BSC. Even when I was definitely too old, my 5 years younger sister was still reading them so I would still read them. Honestly if I found one now I'd probably read it. It's fair to say I was obsessed.
@mediagirl: My mom didn't want me to read Sweet Valley High either-- Twins was fine, but she thought the High School ones were trash. It didn't help that the first one I brought home had Jessica looking kind of trashy on the cover AND it was the one where Bruce (?) kind of tried to rape her in the boat house? Looking back, that's kind of dark...
Have you guys seen this? http://thehairpin.com/2011/01/the-baby-sitters-club-where-are-they-now/
It made the rounds on facebook a while back. I love that it starts with "the original founding members (none of this Abby bullshit) " Stupid Abby.

Yes loved the babysitters clubs and even saw the movie
I also loved sweet valley series. So awesome! It did get a bit dark as it got to Sweet Valley University I think I remember Jessica's boyfriend died and it was a bit too emotional but I still loved it and enjoyed watching the tv series while it lasted

I moslty read the Little Sister books.....and Goosebumps books!! Saved them ALL so hopefully my kids will like them too.
cantaloupe / 6751 posts
@Thehistoryofus: haha cute! We tried setting up a babysitting service too. Wasn't very successful
@theknest: I saved all mine too. Really hoping L will love books! I daydream about us reading my old books together
@mediagirl: my mom didn't want me reding them either. I didn't really get into the sweet valley books. I was BSC all the way!
@Foodnerd81: Yeah, I had stopped reading for awhile bc i got old and then one day I picked up an Abby book and was like, wtf who's Abby??
grapefruit / 4669 posts
Absolutely! I still have quite a few of the books saved for my daughter someday. (she will probably hate them, but still)
*ETA* I also loved Sweet Valley Twins! Never read SV High though, they seemed a little mature for me at the time. I read SV Kids a little, but they were so short it seemed like a waste of money to buy the book.
pomegranate / 3212 posts
LOVED them. And baby sitters little sister (the Karen books!). I had almost all of them I think and would get other things from them like stationary and pencils etc., OBSESSED!
GOLD / papaya / 10206 posts
Loved the baby sitters club, and the little sisters books too. My sister read the big books and I read the little sister books until I graduated up to the big books.

Love BSC and SVH!! I think they are still at my parents house... I wonder if my future daughter would be interested in reading them or if they'll be completely irrelevant by then!
grapefruit / 4669 posts
@Foodnerd81: I finally read that whole page on where are they now...hilarious! And probably pretty accurate.
honeydew / 7444 posts
@sloaneandpuffy: What?? They do?? I had no idea!
I had almost the entire set for BSC. Loved SVH/SVT as well! Too bad the movies/tv shows were just horrible.

BSC was a huge part of my childhood, along with Sweet Valley Twins. I even wrote a slavish fangirl letter to Ann M. Martin and received a nice form letter with an autograph in response. A childhood highlight!
Is anyone still mourning the break-up of Mary Ann and Logan?
