Eta...whoops...just realized the question was Elementary School...I was homeschooled til 8th grade but we did then.

I had to check, but it is the law to recite it in Texas!!

Actually, the district I grew up in did NOT say the Texas pledge, and I thought it was so crazy when I moved this way and everyone did. I didn't even know it until I became a teacher myself.

Yes and the all of the schools I have taught in said the pledge daily also (TN & VA).

We did. And when I taught, we did it once a week over the intercom. But my second year classroom didn't have an intercom, and I'm fairly certain I never did it on my own...huh. Well, if my students turn out to be anti-American, I guess we'll know why

(Not having an intercom also meant that when we did a tornado drill, my students were in their desks instead of in the hall crouched down, and when there was a real lockdown, they were at their desks until I returned to the classroom after army-crawling from another part of the building to tell them to get down...)

Yes...I recall a couple of students not participating for religious reasons. I teach and my we recite the pledge of allegience each morning. I tell my students that they don't have to recite it or stand but they must be quiet and respectful.

Yes! Every morning. If you were lucky you were one of the students that were randomly chosen to recite it over the PA system too.

Every school I've been to or taught at has done it. That's 3 for CT, 2 for OH, and 2 for AZ. I don't really care about it though and I think it's a meaningless tradition for most. I also don't like the wording of pledging allegiance to the flag AND the "republic for which it stands." I'd much rather pledge allegiance to our country's ideals, than a piece of fabric.

In AZ, it's also law to recite the preamble in grades 6-8 social studies classrooms... but we don't.

Yep, but I think (and thought then) it was a very odd ritual.

For sure everyday in elementary school, I don't recall in junior high or HS.

Yes! There was a group of kids that were part of the announcements team that said it over the intercom in the morning and we all recited it along with them. I don't remember anyone ever opting out.

Yes, every school day kindergarten through high school. Though in HS I was late a lot so I usually missed it.

Everyone participated except the kids that were Jehovah's Witnesses, I believe.

Yes, in elementary school. Not in middle or high school.

Yep! I don't know of anyone who chose not to.
