In high school I spend countless hours chatting and messaging people on AOL, mostly people I didn't know IRL since lots of folks didn't regularly get on the internet yet. Chatting is how I learned to type quickly; I think I would pick keys really slowly if not for that time in my life. Anyone else have a former love for AOL chat? Did you spend tons of time perfecting your profile and selecting the right screen name? Good times!

My dad signed me up for an AOL account when I was 7... right after it came out! He had me on the "kids only" section and I had a few pen pals over email. Seems very unsafe now, haha. Pretty sure I got bored with that, and moved on to using AIM almost constantly through middle school and high school (and part of college before Facebook exploded). I miss AIM and the dramatic/funny away messages, haha.

I wanted to but I had to share the computer with my brothers so my parents would set the timer and we each got one hour of online time after our homework was finished.
Needless to say I spent a lot of time playing outside. -

Yes! Loved AOL chat! The internet has changed so much. There's more useful information out there now, but less interacting with strangers. I used to go to chat rooms all the time.

My friends and I would have sleepovers and chat in America Online chat rooms when we were in JH and HS. Then in college, everyone left their computers on with AIM going and away messages with where they were.

Haha, I remember crafting my AIM statuses during college--it was so important to have the perfect one up. I guess that's how facebook statuses are these days!
@travelingbrit: I think it would be weird to go into a chat room these days, but I do believe they exist (I am going by the creepy chats I see in episodes of Criminal Minds).
