I need more options! With #1, I had an episiotomy and STILL tore!
And with #2, I didn't have an episiotomy and tore.

I had a tiny tear, but it was at the top, not the bottom. Required 4 stitches.

A tiny tear, one or two stitches that my doctor referred to as "cosmetic." It wasn't bad at all

From one end to the other with LO1, just a few stitches needed with LO2.

I tore barley and if I recall only needed 1-2 stiches but still hurt like a Mother...

Episiotomy with number 1, 1st degree tear with number 2. Recovery has been so much easier this time!

I tore with both of my VBACs... With my first VBAC I had an epidural and tore... With my 2nd VBAC it was natural & very fast and I tore, but not as much as the first time.

3rd degree tear with my first plus other smaller ones. Scheduled c section this time around to avoid that again.

I had minor tears with both. Needed a few stitches but no big deal.

Oh yes! I never knew what degree but it took a while for them to stitch me up... I was SO afraid of this pre-birth, and was very pleasantly surprised that it healed so much better/easier than I thought!

@Adira: Yep, same here.
With my first I had a second degree tear on top of an episiotomy. I hadn't wanted the episiotomy, and they aren't standard at the hospital where I delivered, but by then I had been pushing for almost 2 hours, he was sunny-side up, and the OB had massaged my perineum with oil several times. D was down by my feet and watching and thought it was the right call, but I still tore on top of it.

I had an episiotomy with my first. With my second I tore but on the top, not the bottom. That burned a bit when using the bathroom.

@lovehoneybee: Yep, mine was also a second degree tear.
When I tore for my second, it was right along where my original episiotomy was, so it ended up healing fairly easily since it was a straight tear.

My guy was just under 6 pounds so I had a second degree tear which was absolutely no big deal. In fact it was one of the easier parts of Labor. It healed perfectly with little scar tissue.

I had a small tear. If the midwife hadn't told me, I wouldn't have known. I think the tear could have been worse but she spent the last hour, maybe hour and a half doing warm oil compresses and massage while I pushed. I think it made a big difference.

Yes but it was just a first degree tear I'm not sure how many stiches. I was able to DTD without major discomfort at 5 weeks.

I tore with my first. It felt like it took forever for it to heal. With my second, I tore as well nowhere as bad. As I did my last push, I remember saying to my OB "I don't want to tear." She assured me that the tear wasn't going to be bad. It wasn't.

Dd1 - very tiny internal, I didn't need stitches
DD2 - I did not, which was a miracle became she came FAST and was over 9lbs

I had a small tear but it was a funny shape so it was hard to stitch properly. It took awhile to heal but no lasting issues.

I didn't tear with either, luckily, but I did get a little of what my doctor called "road rash" with my second. She came out with her arm up by her head, so that was a little more uncomfortable.

I tore with # 1 - a 2nd degree tear that required quite a few stitches and took a long time to heal. With #2, I was tearing badly, so the doctor cut an episiotomy off to the side to prevent a 4th degree tear. Fun times! I developed a hematoma (basically a 2" blood blister that put pressure on my stitches) and was in serious pain from that, but once the hematoma went away, recovery was better the second time. Both babies were larger though (8 lbs 12 oz, and 8 lbs 5 oz, 21"+). #2 was sunny-side up and had a 99th% percentile head. Ouch!

I had a small episiotomy that healed really well and recovery wasn't so bad. My baby was 8lbs 3 oz.

I had a second degree tear with both girls. My Dr believes in tearing as opposed to episiotomy if she doesnt think the tear will be severe.
Both tears req'd stitches and I had "scratches" which were more painful than the tears.
I recovered much better after DD2...

Yes. Had a small 2nd degree tear with both babies. Baby 1 was 8lbs 3oz, pushed for 5 hours (which was probably good i pushed so long, it gave my body time to stretch, trying to see positive).... Second baby was 9lbs 6oz, and the tear occurred in the same spot.
pomegranate / 3904 posts
I should have mentioned that my babies were both smaller (6lbs10oz and 6lbs11oz), with reasonable heads, so I'm sure that contributed to me not tearing

Yes, with both. I remember them saying it was a 4th degree tear with LO1, although I healed easily and quickly so maybe I misheard or misremember.

Yes with both. They were both second degree, but the first was very deep and complicated, and the second was much simpler.

I wouldn't say I tore, just had a few tiny little cuts that required 2-3 stitches.

I tore my cervix and labia. It was bad. Lots of blood and it hurt to pee for awhile
