I've heard of lots of women throwing up, but I didn't.
I hate throwing up, so hopefully I won't this second time around.

I think it's about 50/50, those who do and those who don't. I really hope I don't - although sometimes if you throw up towards the end it's a positive sign that you're in transition and almost done. So if you start throwing up, just think "Maybe this means I'm almost done!", and be happy. lol
My last Mama ate a Chipotle's burrito, a smoothie, two bagels with cream cheese, and tons of tea while in labor and didn't throw up. I think it totally depends on the person.

Nope. I don't throw up all that much I'm general and my contractions felt very different than feeling sick to my stomach. They were in my back and lower belly.

I did. Both times were at major turning points in my labor. First was right when I got into active labor & then when I hit transition.
I hate throwing up with a passion but it actually felt great as I couldn't really feel the contraction while I was puking. Lol

Oh my god yes. From start to finish. I had an assembly line going on...DH held the bucket, then passed it to my mom who passed it to FIL who rinsed it out and sent a new one. I threw up so much that when they finally told me I could eat again I was terrified to eat anything besides apple sauce for several hours. It sucked, but the L&D nurse told me it was helping move him down.

I threw up once. I felt so bad about it, usually I know when I'm going to puke but I didn't know or was in too much pain to know and I almost puked on the Dr that came in to see how things were going. I didn't realize I was about to puke until I tried to answer her and then I almost puked on her.

I threw up once. Looking back it was probably when I was starting transition.

Yes....once when they started the mag drip and once when they started the c section. I puked all over the sterile curtain and all over SO.

I kept feeling it come up but didn't, it was awful! Everytime I pushed I was pushing so hard.

Yes, probably 7-8 times, I lost count but it was a lot. Poor hubby had to bring me the bowl (and take it away)

I almost never throw up and did during labor, though. I was about 5cm along and felt so much better afterwards!

Yes! Only once though. It was as they we're putting the epidural in and I was 8 cm so most likely in transition. Thankfully I made it into te basin. Because I was leaning over DH for the doc to put te epidural in, the basin was put right on top of DH's head! Thankfully I made it in time!

Nope, I never even felt like I needed too because of the contractions. I almost did afterward though every time they were pushing down to try to get blood clots to come out. I was so hungry but they said if it made me feel sick when they did that, to slow down with eating. I never did throw up though.

With my first I threw up right before we went to the hospital, so I was probably in transition as I was 9 when we arrived. The second time I felt for sure I was going to but I did my best to "hold it" since we were in the elevator going up to l&d and it was kind of a bad time lol. But yes I've heard it's a good sign when your sphincters start to open hahaha

Pre-epi 9-10pm (had her just before 8am next day) I was throwing up (sometime only dry heaving) through each contraction.

No, I never had the urge. I never even knew women did that until HB! I hope I won't throw up with #2 either!

Nope, and I threw up almost daily my entire pregnancy!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
No and I am usually one to throw up easily. I was really surprised but I got the epi before things got really bad.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
Yes. Before I got my epidural but while I was waiting for it - they were taking forever getting to me!! I was probably around 6cm dilated. Just puked once, though. Made it into the bucket, too!
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
Yep in the am after sleeping for a cpl hours after my epi kicked in... as I was in the last hour of labor. Was all water...
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
No. Throwing up is a migraine trigger for me so I'm soooooo glad I didn't.
pomegranate / 3008 posts
Yes but only in early labor. Once I was in active labor no as long as I didn't lay flat on my back. I was good as long as I was allowed to stay upright or on my side.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
Nope. Never threw up during any point in my pregnancy either.

I really felt like throwing up after getting my spinal while I was being prepped for the c-section. Horrible feeling, I hate throwing up

I threw up during transition when my second epidural wore off. Since I hadn't eaten anything in 24 hours, it was dryheaving. That was the worst!
Second time around I didn't throw up at all. And I ate lunch while on pitocin (before the epidural)! I started pitocin (induction) at 10:30am, ate lunch at noon, and got my epidural around 4 or 5pm.

I threw up after begging my nurse for something "with calories". It was red jello. I ate it, then it came right back up. Same with the red Gatorade I had brought with me. After that, I resigned myself to being hungry and went back to water only.

I didn't throw up, and I never really threw up in early pregnancy. When I was in labor, I was more facing the issue of waddling to the bathroom to address issues at the other end. Split my time between the toilet and the exercise ball - ugh.

I did after they broke my water. It was pretty intense but I was fine after that.

No, but I threw up about an hour after she was born. I drank my OJ too fast and threw up on my husband. Oops!
pomelo / 5178 posts
Both times, I threw up with every single contraction until I got the epidural, and then again in transition, even with the epidural!
